NIck Fury Returning For “Captain Marvel”?

nick-fury-returning-for-captain-marvel-696x464.jpg

There hasn’t been much in the way of rumors regarding the Brie Larson-led “Captain Marvel” film seeing as the movie is still some time away.

Earlier this year Samuel L. Jackson teased the possibility of his MCU character of Nick Fury appearing in the film. However there was a big question mark over that considering the actor’s Marvel Studios nine-movie contract is up once he wraps work on both “Avengers: Infinity War” and its yet-to-be-titled sequel.

Now, Omega Underground founder Christopher M. has tweeted that they’ve confirmed Jackson will be co-starring in the film, and that the movie has locked down a January 8th start date in Atlanta under the working title “Warbird”.

Previous reports suggested that filming will run through January until May. In the comics, the character’s real name is Carol Danvers, a United States Air Force officer who was caught in the explosion of a Kree device. Although she was able to survive the outburst, she resurfaces with superhuman abilities.

Jackson and Larson have shown they work well together having co-starred in this year’s “Kong: Skull Island” and him filming a role last year in her directorial debut feature “Unicorn Store”.

Marvel Pair Talk Their “Captain Marvel” Hopes

In the wake of the company’s San Diego Comic Con panel, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige and “Avengers: Infinity War” filmmaker Joe Russo have been offering some further quotes about the future of the MCU – and more specifically the “Captain Marvel” film.

Russo has confirmed that Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel will NOT be appearing in the upcoming “Avengers: Infinity War”. There is potential for the character in the fourth “Avengers” but there’s no confirmation or denial of her involvement in that as yet.

Instead, it now looks like Captain Marvel won’t be appearing on screen until her own 1990s-set stand alone film in early 2019 which involves the Skrulls, an alien race whom Marvel has regained some of the rights to. This means the Kree-Skrull War of the comics can now be tapped into with Feige confirming to IGN that it is “an amazing, huge portion of mythology to belong to Captain Marvel”.

Feige also explained the choice of the 1990s setting and how it’s mainly a way to look at a period of the MCU that hasn’t really been touched upon as yet:

“There is an unexplored period of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that we wanted to showcase, and… almost anything else is a spoiler, other than to say, the 90s would be a fun period to make a superhero movie in. I graduated high school in 1991, and the fact that I’m making a period piece that takes place in that time, it’s unbelievable.”

“Captain Marvel” recently emerged as one of a trio of movies to receive a California production tax credit with the project set for a conditional $20.8 million offset. The film is slated to begin production in January and will be released in cinemas on March 8th 2019.

That’s not the only bit of art today as The Art of VFX site has posted a high-res photo of the ‘Iron Spider’ Spider-Man costume glimpsed at the end of “Spider-Man Homecoming” and seen in use in “Avengers: Infinity War”. The article confirms the suit was designed primarily for “Avengers” rather than ‘Homecoming’. Read the full interview here.

Jude Law In Talks For “Captain Marvel”

Jude Law is in negotiations to play the male lead, and the original Captain Marvel, opposite Brie Larson in “Captain Marvel” for Marvel Studios.

Law will be playing Doctor Walter Lawson, a.k.a. Mar-Vell, who becomes a mentor of sorts to Larson’s Air Force pilot Carol Danvers as she tries to figure out her new powers after her DNA is fused with that of an alien during an accident.

The resulting alteration imbues her with the superpowers of strength, energy projection, and flight. Ben Mendelsohn is on board to play the villain while Samuel L. Jackson is expected to reprise his role as Nick Fury in the 1990s set tale.

Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck helm the project which boasts a script by Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman. The film opens March 8th 2019.

The first set photos have emerged of Oscar winner Brie Larson in costume as superhero Captain Marvel. The costume has green screen elements and so will look a little different in the final film.

The photos are likely from the fourth “Avengers” film as opposed to her individual film. Larson is filming a role in that first and then shooting her solo film, even though release wise her solo film will come first, followed very soon after by the fourth “Avengers”.

In Captain Marvel, Larson is joined by Samuel L. Jackson as a younger Nick Fury in the early 1990s-set tale. DeWanda Wise, Ben Mendelsohn and Jude Law co-star.

“Humans” and “Transformers: The Last Knight” star Gemma Chan will star as an alien villain in the “Captain Marvel” film at Marvel Studios and Disney Pictures.

Brie Larson stars in the 1990s-set tale as Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot whose DNA fuses with that of an alien which sends her headlong into an intergalactic adventure.

Chan will play Captain Minn-Erva, a Kree geneticist and a known antagonist in the comics. In the comics she also has super strength, can fly and has enhanced perception.

“Mississippi Grind” directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are directing the project which, after some early filming not long ago, begins filming at full steam ahead in March.

The “Captain Marvel” Film Is Going Funny

the-captain-marvel-film-is-going-funny-696x464.jpg

“Captain Marvel” screenwriter Geneva Robertson-Dworet says that this first female-led Marvel movie will be more of an action comedy than you’d probably expect.

Speaking with EW, Robertson-Dworet talked about her work on this month’s “Tomb Raider” reboot and compared it to “Captain Marvel” which she recently wrote and which goes into full production shortly with Brie Larson in the role.

She revealed that while “Tomb Raider” started out as a comedic origin story which got more serious and dramatic as subsequent drafts came in, “Captain Marvel” is going the opposite direction and going more and more funny:

“Captain Marvel has a very funny voice, and it’s more of an action comedy, more like what we were talking about doing in the first draft I wrote for Tomb Raider…. [but] that tone survived in Captain Marvel. I love funny female characters, so as Tomb Raider got more serious, I got even more committed to the idea of Captain Marvel being hilarious.

Carol Danvers is one of the funniest comic book characters. She’s so sassy, she’s such a smartass, she won’t take sh— from anyone, and the comic books do an amazing job at capturing that voice, and it was important that the entire Captain Marvel creative team [kept to that].

Certainly we were writing after Wonder Woman had come out. We already saw one example of what a superheroine looked like on screen. So we wanted to carve our own path and make sure we weren’t retreading the same territory, and showing all facets of what women are capable of.

I’m hoping that sassy, funny superhero [in the film] is something people haven’t seen before, and that they’re going to be excited to see in Carol Danvers. A lot of the great Captain Marvel comic books really broke ground with Carol Danvers’ voice, and that’s something we want to continue with the movie.”

The “Captain Marvel” movie is currently targeting a March 8th 2019 release.

Poor Jude Law. I go out of my way to see his movies but he's never been and never will be, a leading man. He has the talent but lacks the charisma and "presence." No comment about Brie Larson, I saw her in a comedy once, a long time ago.
