Will Branagh's moustache get it's own spin off prequel?
Next to David Suchet, Kenneth Branagh doesn't even deserve to play the moustache...

That's nothing personal against Branagh, it's just that no one else will ever come close to Suchet's performance.

And as far as I'm concerned, they shouldn't even try. They'd only be embarrassing themselves and wasting everyone's time.

I just got in from seeing it.

I actually enjoyed it a lot and found Branagh did an acceptable Poirot.

Thankfully, any rumoured reports that he has any action scenes a la Bruce Willis, were bogus.. While I agree that no one can top Suchet, KB need not totally hang his head in shame. And they leave it open for a very obvious sequel/another remake of another AC book.

I did not know the solution to the mystery so enjoyed it for that too.

The whole thing is stylishly directed and moves along nicely (the plot as well as the train). The cinematography has some nice flourishes and a quality cast helps matters.

I came at it as a bit of a Philistine, being aware of the character and the most obvious titles, but having never really having devotedly watched the series or having sat down and properly watched any of the previous films. And I have never read any of the books, so it was all fairly fresh to me.

On those terms I found it a perfectly acceptable adaption. But as for discrepancies from the source material, or how it measures up to previous adaptions of ORIENT, I know not with any degree of assurance.

So, all told, I would say yes, it is worth a watch. :emoji_alien:

My eldest is keen to see it so I might have to give it a go. I'm a bit of an Agatha Christie purist though, having read everything she wrote several times. So far David Suchet is the definitive Poirot but even the series they did with him took unnecessary liberties with the stories. The only filmed versions of Christie's works I've enjoyed were 12 Angry Men and Witness for the Prosecution (the 1957 version), both of which I saw before I'd read the short stories they were based on.

Just back from seeing it and I have to say I'm impressed. Its one of the more faithful Christie adaptations I've seen. The performances from the all star cast are fantastic and the cinematography is gorgeous. And although Kenneth Branagh isn't the perfect Poirot (that would obviously be David Suchet) he does a pretty good job once you get used to the moustache. Will definitely be back for the sequel (has that been confirmed yet?)

Awesome. I suspected that would be the next one based on the sequel hook at the end. Another great story (aren't they all) and the added benefit of (hopefully) some awesome location filming.
