I adore Karloff! Every film he is in, he is absolute perfection. No matter how bad the movies itself is, he always brings his A-game. My personal favorites are his FRANKENSTEIN films, natch, THE BLACK CAT, BLACK SABBATH, THE MUMMY and THE RAVEN.
I believe and I'm trying to remember but he didn't play the monster in Abbott and Costello cause he was retired at the time. Plus he didn't want the monster to be seen as a brainless brute or something like that. Everytime I talk classic horror movies his name always comes up.
Glenn Strange, who also played Sam the Bartender in Gunsmoke, played the Monster in Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein - although Strange had received coaching in how to play it from Boris during a previous film where Strange took over as the Monster, called House of Frankenstein.
In October of 1962, Gold Key started production on Boris Karloff Thriller, which lasted two issues before being rebranded as Baris Karloff Tales of Mystery. It was a horror anthology comic which featured Karloff as a horror host, introducing the stories. The series ended in February 1980 with issue 97.
Hope that's sorted it, CSM. Am not sure what was up with it, so it could be a bit of a glitch of some kind. If it doesn't sort out, I can always tweak it at this end.
I used to love any anthology horror comic, raised as I was on those Amicus movies. HOUSE OF SECRETS and HOUSE OF MYSTERY were always my favourites. But it was always nice to see a familiar name like Boris sticking his name on the banner. Having said that, was Boris the only one who ever did this? The closest I can think of is Alfred Hitchcock and his THREE INVESTIGATORS books etc.
I thought that Vincent Price had been associated with a horror comic, but alas, I can't find any evidence of it. Mayhaps it's that dreaded Mandela Effect! Other than those, the only other one I can think of was Rod Serling's image being used for the original run of The Twilight Zone, but like Karloff, I think he just got royalties for his image.
Thanks for fixing the image. This was the second time that that has happened. Hopefully it's all figured out now, otherwise I'll be sitting in the corner crying for you again.
