King Won’t Pen Any “Castle Rock” Episodes

We’re in the midst of a Stephen King craze at the moment between “Mr. Mercedes” on the air, “The Dark Tower” in cinemas,” “IT” opening in a few weeks and more adaptations on the way.

One of the most intriguing of the projects is Hulu’s “Castle Rock,” a TV series that will blend the mythology of all the famed author’s works into an original narrative.

J.J. Abrams is producing the series, and there’s been question as to whether King will contribute a script. He tells USA Today:

“I don’t have any plans to write for it but I’m in contact with (executive producer) J.J. Abrams. We’ve talked about a couple of interesting ideas, and I know at least one of the stories that has a Castle Rock background will figure in the TV series. It’s a little like sending your kids off to college: Here’s what I’ve got for you, I’ve raised you right, hopefully, you’ll go off and you won’t get into trouble. Sometimes they do anyway.”

Melanie Lynskey, Andre Holland, Jane Levy, Bill Skarsgard, Sissy Spacek, and Frank Ridley star in the series which is expected to debut sometime in 2018.

“Lost” star Terry O’Quinn will reunite with executive producer J.J. Abrams for “Castle Rock,” Hulu’s upcoming psychological-horror drama series based on the collective works of Stephen King.

Bad Robot Productions and Warner Bros. Television are producing the story set in the fictional Maine town featured prominently in a number of his novels, novellas and short stories.

O’Quinn will play Dale Lacy, a pillar of the community in the town of Castle Rock. He joins a cast that includes Andre Holland, Scott Glenn, Sissy Spacek, Melanie Lynskey, Jane Levy and Bill Skarsgard.

Sam Shaw, Dustin Thomason, Ben Stephenson and Liz Glotzer also serve as executive producers.

Castle Rock

Chosen Jacobs, who played a young Mike Hanlon in the film adaptation of Stephen King’s “IT,” has joined Hulu’s upcoming King-universe set “Castle Rock” psychological horror series which debuts sometime this Summer.

Jacobs has a recurring role as Wendell Deaver, the son of Andre Holland‘s lawyer character Henry Deaver. He marks the second “IT” actor to join the project with Pennywise himself actor Bill Skarsgard playing a death row inmate with a connection to Henry.

Hulu has renewed its Stephen King multiverse-set anthology drama series “Castle Rock” for a second season.

The first season premiered on July 25th and within its first day of launch, the streamer reports, the show became the most successful first season Hulu Original when “considering consumption and reach”.

Hulu’s senior vice president and head of content Craig Erwich tells Variety when the series returns, it will be with a ‘wholly original’ story in its second season:

“It was a deeply original idea from two of the world’s greatest storytellers, and it was centered around something that’s been beloved and familiar to many of Stephen King’s legion of fans, which is the town of Castle Rock. So expectations were high to begin with, but it exceeded them. The reaction from the variety of audiences has been overwhelming and it seems to be one of the most talked about shows of the summer… By all measures, audience, critical, and social response the show has been one of the breakout hits of the summer in television.”

Andre Holland, Sissy Spacek, Bill Skarsgard, Melanie Lynskey, Scott Glenn, Jane Levy and Terry O’Quinn star in the series with the first season’s ten episode run to cap off with the finale to air September 12th.
