So they waste an entire trailer showing that Jodie is "breaking the glass ceiling"!

And after all that stating that the gender changing would not be made an issue of.

I do miss the old days when a DOCTOR WHO trailer would be about... you know... the upcoming stories.....? :emoji_confused:

Doctor Who

More details have emerged regarding the new season of “Doctor Who” with some confirmations of previous rumors. First up, the ten episodes which be entirely standalones – no multi-parters. There will be no returning aliens or monsters (like Daleks or Cybermen) from the show’s previous seasons, and the show will be shot in a 2:1 aspect ratio for the first time. The new series premieres October 7th.

Chris Chibnall: “I don’t know how many times I need to say it. There are no old monsters this series”
"This is Doctor Who in an era of Netflix – you've got to keep up"

“There are no [Daleks]!” he says. “I don’t know how many times I need to say it. There are no old monsters this series. OK? I think, you can’t as a showrunner coming in, you can’t really define it against the past. Like, that’s what [the press] will do, but it’s actually not for me to come in and go ‘Where am I going to place this in relation to the Hartnell era, or the Hinchcliff era, or Peter Davison. It’s not about that. It’s about going ‘Ah, what stories do I want to tell? What’s happening in the world? What’s happening in film and television? And how does Doctor Who sit at the forefront of that? I just wanted us to feel like we were moving forward.”

Chibnall explains that part of the reason why he decided to favour the future rather than the past is that Doctor Who now has to stay relevant against the programming of Netflix, and superhero shows like Arrow and Supergirl that are coming out of The CW network in America.

“This is Doctor Who in an era of Netflix – you’ve got to keep up,” he says. “You’ve got to keep up with Black Mirror, you’ve got to keep up with all the DC shows in the US. So it’s just making sure it’s fit for purpose. I think you tell great stories with great actors. And you tell stories that feel resonant to people’s lives. I mean, Doctor Who is the single greatest idea anybody’s ever had in the history of television, so just make that, really, and make it to the best of your ability.”

While I understand that reasoning to a degree, it sounds to me like it has assumed more importance than maybe it should.

It's also being a follower and not a leader.

Just make a good show. Make recognisably great WHO.

The public will figure the rest out.

“Doctor Who” Scores Big UK Ratings

BBC One’s “Doctor Who” returned last night to huge audiences, the series opener featuring Jodie Whittaker’s first outing in the role of The Doctor garnered 8.2 million viewers overnight and a 40.1% audience share – peaking at 9 million viewers at one point.

That’s better than the first episodes of the two previous incarnations of the character – Peter Capaldi’s was 6.8 million, Matt Smith’s was 8 million. This episode marked the best numbers for a non-‘special’ episode of ‘Who’ since David Tennant’s last regular episode – the fourth season finale “Journey’s End” a decade ago.

That’s also better than “Bodyguard,” the public broadcaster’s best new drama launch for a decade earlier this year which had an overnight audience of 6.8 million.

Reviews were a mixed bag – Whittaker, the companions and the visuals praised but the overall episode itself garnered less enthusiastic reaction with the writing criticised. Still, all seemed keen to see more.

Trailers for both the second episode and one showcasing the guest stars set to appear across the rest of the season have arrived. They confirm Chris Noth, Alan Cumming, Mark Addy, Josh Bowman, Phyllis Logan, Lee Mack, Art Malik, Susan Lynch and Siobhan Finneran will all guest star in the adventures screening this Fall.

After last weekend's record-breaking debut, Jodie Whittaker's first Doctor Who series continues to perform strongly in the ratings.

The second episode 'The Ghost Monument' premiered last night (October 14), and drew in an overnight audience of 7.1 million, according to the BBC's Lizo Mzimba.

While that's a million less than last week's premiere – ratings nearly always drop off after a series premiere – it's still a pretty stellar draw for the show, proving that interest in the new Chris Chibnall series remains high.
