Producer Frank Doelger (“Game of Thrones,” “Rome”) is reportedly set to adapt Frank Schaetzing’s environmental sci-fi thriller novel “The Swarm” into an eight-part big-budget English language series for German broadcaster ZDF and Doelger’s own Intaglio Films.

Set in the present day, unnatural behavior in marine animals causes upheaval all over the world from jellyfish attacking human swimmers en masse, to mussels stopping large vessels, and more. Scientists soon learn that at the bottom of the sea resides a collective intelligence which has suffered the ravages of civilization and has decided to fight back.

Production on the series will begin in 2019 and it will be executive produced by Doelger, Schaetzing and Eric Welbers. Uma Thurman and “The Silence of the Lambs” screenwriter Ted Tally had previously been attached to adapt the book into a feature.

Filmmaker Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck (“The Lives of Others”) is set to make an English-language series adaptation of Belgian fantasy comic “Thorgal” as his immediate next project. Jean Van Hamme and Grzegorz Rosinski penned the comic series which has sold some fourteen million volumes in eighteen languages worldwide.

The comic is set in the Middle Ages and follows the adventures of a mysterious dark-haired child, Thorgal, an extraterrestrial infant found and adopted by a Viking chieftain. He grows to be a great warrior, using his skills to battle against powers greater than anything the Vikings could have imagined.

von Donnersmarck is at the Venice Film Festival for the premiere of his historical drama “Never Look Away,” Germany’s entry for the foreign-language film Oscar. The director plans to head a writers room on the project and direct as many of them as would be physically possible. Pergamon Film will produce the project.

Your thoughts on this show.....

Based on a character from the popular Seth Grahame-Smith novel “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”.

The story follows Abby, a young analyst, as she’s recruited into a special division of the FBI that investigates unique and mysterious cases.

While working on her first case tracking a string of bizarre murders she discovers her new enigmatic partner also happens to be a 500-year-old vampire.

Your thoughts on this show......

A contemporary re-imagining of the “Robin Hood” saga, but the setup is as far from the ‘former Crusades soldier fighting tyranny and robbing the upper class of a British forest’ premise as you can get.

Here the main character is Adefolke Girabaldi, a half-Nigerian and half-Black American woman who is also an “investing wunderkind,” “trading forecast prodigy” and “activist short seller” on Wall Street.

Her bow and arrow? A billion-dollar hedge fund which she uses to eviscerate predatory corporations that exploit the poor. At the same time, she navigates the world of her own family, one at the center of New York City’s black aristocracy where money, privilege, and racism intersect.

HBO Plans A Wall Street “Robin Hood” Series

HBO has announced the drama series “Trader” which will have “The Old Man & the Gun” and “Southside With You” actress Tika Sumpter executive producing and likely starring.

The project has an interesting logline – it’s a contemporary re-imagining of the “Robin Hood” saga, but the setup is as far from the ‘former Crusades soldier fighting tyranny and robbing the upper class of a British forest’ premise as you can get.

“Lovecraft Country” scribes Sonya Winton and Jonathan Kidd are penning the project and will also executive produce alongside Emily Gerson Saines (“Temple Grandin”). Sumpter will soon be seen in Tyler Perry’s “Nobody’s Fool” opposite Tiffany Haddish.

Sounds interesting, but I'm confused. I had not heard of the novel, so I looked it up, and it seems to center around Henry from the first novel/movie. There's no mention of an Abby. So, we're shoehorning in a character just because?

Following their successful collaboration adapting his comic “Happy!” for Syfy, famed comic writer Grant Morrison and Universal Cable Productions will re-team to develop and produce a TV series based on Morrison’s 1990s Vertigo comic series “The Invisibles”.

Set in 2020, the story follows an elite international cell of occult freedom fighters dedicated to the creation of a better world for everyone – by any means necessary. The comic served as a major inspiration for The Wachowski’s “The Matrix” Trilogy.

Morrison’s work on “Batman,” “JLA” and “Doom Patrol” have been celebrated, and his other creations include “The Filth” and “We3”. Morrison is also working with Brian Taylor and David Weiner to adapt Aldous Huxley’s sci-fi novel “Brave New World” for television.

I have not even heard of this title. I try to avoid Dark Horse books these days, due to higher ups there making public comments that were very anti-LGBT, but I might have to see if a library somewhere near here has some trades.

Your thoughts on these series (plural).......

Multiple series, exploring the aftermath of an alien ‘Wild Card’ virus which was released over Manhattan in 1946 and killed 90% of those it infected. Amongst the survivors, DNA was altered creating grotesque physical deformities except for a tiny percentage who developed superhuman powers instead.

Said virus passed down through generations and can go undetected until suddenly activated by a traumatic event – at which point the carrier either dies, mutates or gets god-like powers. Now, victims of the virus want to define their own future.
