Review Yoko (and John)

Again, I'm certain there are arguments for both, but I would lean heavily on it being tasteless exploitation. The fact that, for nearly 40 years since his death, she has capitalized on it and him as best she could. She had no real laurels to rest on, so she used his legacy to keep her coffers filled.

John Lennon's Dad released a single, much to the fury of John!

Alf made no real attempt to contact John again until the height of Beatlemania (claiming he did not know who the Beatles were). He was working as a kitchen porter at the Greyhound Hotel at Hampton Court, in Middlesex, when someone pointed out a photograph of John Lennon in a newspaper and asked whether he was related to him.

After Christmas, in 1965, John was embarrassed to hear that Alf had made a record: "That's My Life (My Love and My Home)", released on 31 December 1965.

John asked Epstein to do anything he could to stop it being released or becoming a hit. The record never made it into the charts.

In 1966 "Freddie Lennon" (the name under which Alf recorded) tried again, and issued three singles with the group Loving Kind. These records did not sell well, either. Though the public at large quickly forgot these attempts to cash in on his son's success with the Beatles, the records do command fairly high prices among collectors of rare records, with "That's My Life" being worth over £50.

By 1976, Alfred was diagnosed with terminal stomach cancer and John sent a large bouquet of flowers to the hospital and phoned Alf on his deathbed.

Vallee To Direct John & Yoko Movie

vallee-to-direct-john-yoko-movie-696x464.jpg

Jean-Marc Vallee (“Dallas Buyers Club,” “Big Little Lies”) is set to direct a new biopic about legendary Beatles frontman John Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono in the works at Universal Pictures and Immersive Pictures.

Vallee was previously atop the shortlist for the next James Bond film, but he took himself out of the running to do this film instead. He will direct, edit and do a script polish.

Anthony McCarten (“Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Darkest Hour,” “The Theory of Everything”) will pen the script while Yoko Ono herself will produce along with McCarten, Valle, Michael De Luca, Josh Bratman and Nathan Ross. There’s no release date set as yet.

Ross says in a statement: “We are all huge Beatles fans, and this is a dream come true. There were inner and outer struggles John had, and family turmoil as a child, and things she had to endure before John’s tragic death. The thing we loved about the script was its stark honesty. You see so many biopic scripts where you can see that the cooperation of the subject’s family had something to do with the editorial, and that wasn’t the case here.”

After John's death an employee called Fred Seaman stole a large amount of his belongings, including personal diaries, with the aim of writing a book. (He claimed he was taking all this stuff to give to Julian, but none of it ever reached him and the court decided differently.) Amongst the haul were an audio diary that John privately recorded, showing the human being at the heart of the myth.........

A healthy, happy person about to set the world alight with a great musical rebirth a year later? Or a deeply depressed soul, trapped in some kind of inescapable purgatory/limbo?

Or somewhere in the middle?

The reality seems to be that, from numerous corroborative insider accounts, even while she and John were recording the last album, DOUBLE FANTASY, she was at the tail end of an affair with an art dealer - who was somewhat of a gigolo of a man - called Sam Green, ("She was the best playmate I ever had!" Sam Green explained to biographer Albert Goldman, saying that Yoko would slip away for secret liaisons with him in hotel rooms in between recording her tracks on the album.

Somewhat earlier, while in the middle of this supposed affair, she was preparing to divorce John , telling people that she was "bored" with him and had, at one point, moved John's possessions out of one apartment to another in the Dakota, while John and Sean were in Bermuda, where she had sent them on holiday (after telling John that her tarot card readers thought that the trip would do him and Sean good), and was ready to cut John out of her life when he returned.

(Sam Green, John & Yoko)

Sam Green, perhaps panicking at how fast things were moving and the enormity of this, made her put them back. John's will was also changed to make Sam Green the guardian of Sean in the event of John and Yoko's death.

Her plans to actually divorce John fizzled - or were at least put on the backburner - somewhat when he unexpectedly returned to recording.

And another man she already knew (a bisexual interior decorator) called Sam Havadtoy dropped his boyfriend and moved into the apartment immediately after John was murdered. He explained to his boyfriend that he was now straight and "You don't understand: this is the natural thing to do!".

Andy Peebles, who conducted one of the last interviews with John and became part of the inner circle, said that he eventually realised that Yoko and Havadtoy seemed to have been having a relationship even before John's death.

John, for his part, dismissed both Sam's as "Yoko's fags" and that they were "on the make", not considering either of them a threat in his lifetime.

She lived with Sam Havadtoy for the next twenty years, longer than she was with John and her other two previous husbands combined. Why they eventually separated is unknown, but presumably he had to sign some kind of gagging order when they did so.

I notice that, merchandise wise in the letter, she is already focused on protecting the "legal rights" of the family, re: the exploitation of John's name.

And nobody was ever able to quite figure out where all this money raised for "The Spirit Foundation" charity, quickly erected in John's name went. The charity was vague about where the money would go. "Use the money where we see fit" was the most anyone ever found out.

Both Julian and Cynthia said that Yoko was obsessed with money (and playing a power role) - it was all she ever went on about they said - and that all conversations inevitably came back to money.
