I'm really not sure this concept lends itself to a movie format. All you'd really get is the basic pilot episode plot done with a big budget. This is a story that's best explored over a multi-episode series format. For me, the 2004 re-imaging did it best (although the original was fantastic too).

I wonder if they will ignore all that the 2004 version brought to the table - or just do a new re-imagining of the 1978 one.

I should imagine that that is something they will need to seriously discuss as they go along.

“Battlestar Galactica” Film Gets A New Writer

“The Girl in the Spider’s Web” and the upcoming “Charlie’s Angels” reboot scribe Jay Basu has come on board to pen a script for a film reimagining of “Battlestar Galactica” for Universal Pictures.

The original 1978 series chronicled the adventures of space-faring vessel centuries in the future. At the end of a millennia-long conflict with a robotic race known as the Cylons, the last surviving warship, the Galactica, leads a convoy of hundreds of human vessels in search of a mythic planet called Earth.

The franchise is best known for the TV reboot from “Outlander” and “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” producer Ronald D. Moore. That reboot premiered fifteen years ago to much critical acclaim and remains one of the most lauded sci-fi TV series made.

Basu takes over from Lisa Joy who wrote an earlier draft of the script. Francis Lawrence (“Red Sparrow,” “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”) will helm the new film while Dylan Clark will produce.
