“Crazy Rich Asians” star Michelle Yeoh is in talks to reprise her “Star Trek Discovery” role of Phillippa Georgiou to lead an upcoming spin-off series based around her character in the works at CBS All Access.

Still in the early planning stages, the spin-off will likely to focus on a continuation of her adventures in the upcoming second season of the series where she’s now working for Section 31 – the secret, autonomous organization that is a part of the Federation charter.

An offshoot of Starfleet Intelligence, and operating without oversight, they essentially carry out covert ops for the Federation and were featured in “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” and “Star Trek Into Darkness”.

“STAR TREK DISCOVERY” – SEASON 1 SPOILERS

Yeoh appeared in the pilot of “Star Trek Discovery” as Captain Philippa Georgiou, captain of the USS Shenzhou who served as the mentor of the show’s lead character Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green). She died early on, leading to Burnham joining the USS Discovery, but Yeoh returned to the role as the ‘Mirror Universe’ version of her character who served as Emperor of the Terran Empire.

At the end of the first season, Yeoh’s character was trapped in our universe and had assumed her dead counterpart’s identity – ultimately helping Starfleet with a key mission. She is then recruited to Section 31 in the final moments of the first season finale.

END SPOILERS

If the Yeoh-led show goes forward it would join ‘Discovery’, the untitled Jean-Luc Picard series, and half-hour animated comedy “Star Trek: Below Decks” all on the service. The second season of ‘Discovery’ is set to debut January 17th on CBS All Access in the U.S. and on Netflix worldwide.

Michelle Yeoh Set For “Star Trek” Spin-Off

CBS All Access has made it official – they’ve announced they are developing another “Star Trek” series for the streaming service with this one centering on actress Michelle Yeoh’s character Philippa Georgiou, the former leader of the Terran Empire in a mirror universe and now a member of the Starfleet black-ops division Section 31.

The series will be executive produced by Alex Kurtzman with Bo Yeon Kim and Erika Lippoldt serving as showrunners. It will mark the fourth full-length series of the long-running sci-fi franchise for CBS All Access following “Star Trek: Discovery,” the Jean-Luc Picard series and an adult animated series about one of Starfleet’s less-important ships which hails from “Rick and Morty” producer Mike McMahan.

Yeoh says in a statement: “I’m so excited to continue telling these rich Star Trek stories. Being a part of this universe and this character specifically has been such a joy for me to play. I can’t wait to see where it all goes — certainly I believe it will go ‘where no woman has ever gone before!’”

Yeoh will be seen in the second season of ‘Discovery’ which is set to premiere on January 17th.
