The Importance of a Breakdown

Having a nervous breakdown could seem like the ultimate calamity. Far from it. Handled correctly, it can be a unique opportunity to learn - and to get properly well.

As anyone else, I can point to a handful of people who do, indeed, use it as a crutch, or over exaggerate their problems. But on the whole, mental health issues need to be addressed and taken seriously. Much more needs to be done to help those who need it. I, myself, while never professionally diagnosed, have dealt with depression (and I'm certain a handful of other mental maladies), my wife has dealt with depression, my daughter is Autistic, and my son dealt with Oppositional Defiance Disorder (Google it, and you'll understand why I've gone grew so early in life) and anxiety when he was younger. And every year, less and less help is offered or provided, and in my state alone, mental health institutions were closed at an alarming rate.

(Is this where we talk about the irony of how republicans say gun violence is a mental health issue, and yet their politicians take money away from mental health - or is that me trying to politicize issues?)

This is where we talk about how Republicans are horrible, nasty ass-wipes who should be tried for treason.

I’ve struggled with what I thought was life-long depression but turned out to be Schizoaffective Disorder, with Autism (I was diagnosed 3 years ago - would have been nice to have this information earlier) and severe social anxiety. I’ve tried so many medications and nothing works. I want to try CBD oil, but because marijuana is, for some political reason that has nothing to do with health, illegal, CBD is unregulated by the FDA and very expensive. Caveat emptor!
