The second episode of current ninth season of AMC’s “The Walking Dead” drew a 2.0 rating in the key adults 18-49 demographic and 4.9 million viewers in the Live+Same Day numbers.

That’s down around 20% in both measures from last week’s season premiere, and a series low for the show. The previous lowest ratings figure was a 2.4 set during the first season.

In terms of total viewers, it hasn’t dropped to its lowest point (4.7 million) just yet. This marks the latest ratings blow to the series which was TV’s number one show in the key demo for multiple seasons.

Lincoln Leads Three “Walking Dead” Telemovies

He may have officially departed AMC’s “The Walking Dead ” series tonight, but actor Andrew Lincoln isn’t leaving behind his role of Rick Grimes just yet.

THR reports that the actor will reprise the role for three big-budget, feature-length telemovies based on the franchise. Former showrunner and content chief Scott M. Gimple is currently writing the first of the untitled series of films with production to kick off next year. Speaking with the trade, he says this is merely the beginning of AMC’s plans to expand its multi-billion dollar franchise:

“There is more story to tell and we’ll be telling it. The story of Rick will go on in films. Right now, we’re working on three but there’s flexibility in that… Over the next several years, we’re going to be doing specials, new series are quite a possibility, high-quality digital content and then some content that defies description at the moment. We’re going to dig into the past and see old characters. We’re going to introduce new characters and new situations.”

The original plan was to kill off Grimes this season, but story ideas that brewed between Lincoln and Gimple will allow them to continue to tell Rick’s story in another format. Lincoln has confirmed he’ll be in all three films which will initially deal with the time period between his ascent into the sky and the years later time jump featured at the end of Sunday’s episode. They will then go beyond that, and each will be relatively standalone as opposed to a connected trilogy.

Lincoln exited “The Walking Dead” in order to spend more time with his family in England. The current plan calls for him to be in production on each movie for two months with big breaks in between – a much more relaxed schedule than the annual nine months he has spent every year for much of the past decade filming the main series in Atlanta.

The movies will be AMC Studios Original Films and will likely air on AMC, though a partner is also expected to come onboard to share the costs. The aim, says AMC programming president David Madden, is for a: “large, big scope movie that will feel like a major motion picture” as opposed to merely an extended episode of the show. The movies will also NOT be used as back-door pilots for other potential spinoffs.

Madden adds: “There is a multiple-year plan that could include additional series, digital content and specials. We’re looking to broaden this into a universe where the movies that Andy will be in are the highest-profile things that we do”. Each film is expected to come in at two hours and sport a feature film-level budget – a far cry from the main series which cost a cheap $3 million per episode a few years ago and hasn’t really gone up since then.

Those involved are also looking beyond the films at other potential projects with the aim to diversify storytelling and airing formats, global locations, tone and characters. There’s also the likely return of fan-favorite characters no longer in the series with Gimple teasing: “I have one of those stories in progress right now. [That would] not only give us a chance to work with these wonderful people again but to answer questions about their characters.”

The current season is averaging a 4.0 in the demo and 9.4 million viewers.

“Walking Dead” Hits Ratings Low, Cancels Game

AMC’s once unassailable zombie show juggernaut “The Walking Dead” has fallen – hard. This past Sunday’s episode hit an all-time low in the ratings – pulling in a 1.7 rating in the key 18-49 demographic and 4.5 million viewers total.

That’s the least watched episode of the series since the second episode of the first season back in 2010 which scored 4.71 million viewers total. The series peaked at the start of its fifth season in 2014 with 17.3 million viewers for the season premiere. Even with the fall it remains the top scripted show on cable.

The bad news comes as the bad launch on PC in November last year of “Overkill’s The Walking Dead” game has led to publishers Starbreeze Studios and 505 Games cancelling their planned console releases of the title according to Reddit.

The show has a limited life like all things but in the US they'll squeeze it dry for every last buck they can! It's sort of good that they don't keep exactly to the comic but when Negan killed both Abraham and glenn I thought it was just too much! Glenn was the one to go and Abe should have been killed either earlier (like in the book) or in one of the clashes with the Saviours!

Gimpel was going on about season ten on the Talking Dead the other day! Still squeezing it for all they can get! I read about how Gimpel conned Carl out of his role the other day! Promising him a three season deal and Carl going out and buying himself a house near the filming sites only to be told that that his role in season eight was coming to an end despite the assurances! That Gimpel thinks a lot of himself and I wonder why he still has power on the show despite no longer being the exec? I'm sure Andrew Lincoln left the show mainly because of how Carl had been treated as well!

“Walking Dead” S9 Finale Its Lowest Ever

walking-dead-s9-finale-its-lowest-ever-696x464.jpg

AMC’s zombie apocalypse series “The Walking Dead” continues its steady dive with Sunday night’s ninth season finale proving to sink to an all-time finale low for the show.

Titled ‘The Storm,’ the episode raked in 5 million viewers overall and 1.9 rating in the key demo. That’s down by 37% in viewers and 44% in the key demo from the eighth season finale in mid-April last year. It’s also down by 16% on the worst finale before this point – the first season ender in 2010.

The show has already been renewed for a tenth season with a new spinoff and several Andrew Lincoln-led Rick Grimes movies on the way. The series also remains the top-rated show on cable and top tier on TV overall, but a long way from the series high of 17.3 million for the fifth season opener.

Part of that though is timeshifting. The series has gone up an average of 47% in viewers and 52% in the key demo in Live + 3 numbers. The current season has seen the show’s biggest rates of time-shifted results to date.

I'd read some reviews before I saw the episode on Monday and i have to say they were right! The episode just dragged it's feet even if it was nice to see the snow in Georgia! No real menace from the Whisperers even when the group crossed through their territory! Reminds me of the Romulan Neutral Zone to be honest! The radio message is from the last few books I've read of the comics so i'll keep quiet but if the show overtakes the comics, what then?
