CW Orders “The Lost Boys” Series Pilot

First announced as a possibility nearly three years ago, The CW has announced it is finally moving forward on an ambitious series re-imagining of Joel Schumacher’s cult 1987 horror comedy “The Lost Boys” to be produced by Gulfstream TV and Warner Bros. Television.

A pilot has been ordered based on a new take by Heather Mitchell (“Scandal”), but specifics are unknown. Previously “Veronica Mars” and “iZombie” creator Rob Thomas pitched a version that, like “The Crown,” would cover a decade of events per season.

The CW has also ordered pilots for a new take on “Nancy Drew” by the creators of “Gossip Girl” along with spin-offs of “Riverdale” (titled “Katy Keene”) and “Jane the Virgin” (titled “Jane the Novela”). All join the previously ordered “Batwoman” pilot.

“Teen Wolf” series lead Tyler Posey has signed on for the lead role of Michael in the upcoming “The Lost Boys” TV pilot at The CW.

Posey’s Michael, played by Jason Patrick in the original 1987 Joel Schumacher-directed film, is one of the two sons who move to the seaside town of Santa Carla with their mother (Kiele Sanchez).

Medalion Rahimi (“Still Star-Crossed”) plays Stella, a carefree Californian who has an immediate spark with Michael while her boyfriend David (Dakota Shapiro) is the bad-boy leader of a vampire gang – Jami Gertz and Kiefer Sutherland played those respective roles in the original.

“Twilight” helmer Catherine Hardwicke will direct the pilot which was first developed and rejected in the planning stages for the 2016-17 season before being re-developed for the upcoming Fall season. “Scandal” writer Heather Mitchell has penned while Rob Thomas, Dan Etheridge, Mike Karz and Bill Bindley will executive produce.

Sarah Hay (“Flesh and Bone”), Cheyenne Haynes (“Camping”) and Haley Tju (“Bella and the Bulldogs”) have all scored key roles in the pilot for The CW’s TV series remake of famed 1987 vampire film “The Lost Boys”.

Catherine Hardwicke helms this new take set in sunny seaside Santa Carla, home to a beautiful boardwalk and a secret underworld of vampires. After the sudden death of their father, brothers Michael (Tyler Posey) and Sam Emerson move to Santa Carla with their mother, Lucy (Kiele Sanchez), who hopes to start anew.

But the brothers soon find themselves being drawn deeper into the seductive world of the eternally beautiful and youthful undead. Hay will portray Mollie, a girl turned into a vampire by David and has become her maker’s rival for leadership of the vampire gang. She travels in a small pack with her eternally eight-year-old son, Laddie.

Haynes and Tju will portray the Frog Sisters, Liza and Cassie, respectively. The pair are teenage locals who work at Santa Carla’s comic-book store and think they’re the only ones aware of the darkness in this town. Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander played the Frog Brothers in the original film.

Medalion Rahimi and Dakota Shapiro also star while Warner Bros TV, Spondoolie Prods and Gulfstream TV will produce.

Rio Mangini (“Teen Wolf”) and Del Zamora (“Mayans MC”) have come onboard The CW’s series adaptation of 1987 cult horror film “The Lost Boys”.

Catherine Hardwicke (“Twilight”) directs, Heather Mitchell (“Scandal) writes, and Rob Thomas (“Veronica Mars”) executive produces the new series set in sunny seaside Santa Carla, home to a beautiful boardwalk and a secret underworld of vampires.

JOEL SCHUMACHER:
Jason and I have talked about this many times. Jason Patric had it all. He ran away from fame. He absolutely turned his back on it when it happened on The Lost Boys. And there’s a lot of reasons for that, but it’s not necessary to go into, it’s private… I have a feeling he grew up maybe not sensing that fame was a great thing. But why is it important for people to be movie stars? Jason Patric, at 18, with those looks and deep acting talent, could’ve had it all. He didn’t want it and purposefully ran the other way, and I respect him for that.”
