Rey & Finn Team Again In “Episode 9”

rey-finn-team-again-for-episode-ix-696x464.jpg

One obvious issue with “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” even amongst its biggest fans, is that it splits up the core trio of Rey, Finn and Poe after bringing them together in ‘Force Awakens’.

By the end, they’re reunited and now actor John Boyega has seemingly confirmed that the two will remain together for much of the J.J. Abrams-directed “Star Wars: Episode IX”. Speaking at Awesome Con in Washington over the weekend, he revealed to Slashfilm:

“I haven’t read the script for Episode IX. But Daisy [Ridley] did shoot me a text saying, ‘Oh my gosh, I just heard from J.J. [Abrams], and we’re back together. That’s what I’m really excited about, is Finn and Rey back together again.”

Filming on the third installment in the current trilogy kicks off in July and Boyega says he suspects there will be an “all-out war” between the Resistance and The First Order.

Following the welcome surprise of his appearance in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” the Force ghost version of Yoda could be appearing again in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming “Star Wars: Episode IX” according to a source for The New York Daily News.

The paper claims Yoda will appear in the film and will have a scene with Rey (Daisy Ridley) in which he acknowledges Rey’s success and growth as a Jedi. The scenes will reportedly be shot later this year.

“Star Wars: Episode IX” opens December 20th 2019.

Richard E. Grant Is Not Playing Thrawn

richard-e-grant-is-not-playing-thrawn-696x464.jpg

One familiar name joining “Star Wars: Episode IX” is the legendary Richard E. Grant, the British acting veteran who continues to pop up in blockbusters every now and then including fairly recently serving as the villain in James Mangold’s acclaimed “Logan”.

Of course when Grant’s name was announced, specifics of his character weren’t revealed which has since led to plenty of speculation including that he’ll take on the infamous character of Grand Admiral Thrawn. Thrawn has yet to be mentioned or seen in any of the films, but the fan-favorite character has been a huge part of the extended universe materials and the “Star Wars Rebels” animated series.

This week Radio Times got to speak with him about it and asked him straight up if he’s playing Thrawn to which he responded: “I’m not playing the ‘Star Wars’ character you just mentioned. I’m not allowed to tell you anything. Otherwise, I would be fired. It’s a complete lockdown on any information whatsoever.”

J. J. Abrams helms the film which is currently in production ahead of a December 2019 release.

Dominic Monaghan Joins “Star Wars: Episode IX”

Dominic Monaghan is reuniting with his “Lost” producer J.J. Abrams as part of the cast of the currently in production “Star Wars: Episode IX” at Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm.

Specifics of his role are under wraps, but his involvement has been a long time coming – the actor had hoped to be a part of the action on “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” several years ago but it didn’t happen. Now it’s a go.

The hiring comes as the first set photos from the film have popped up online showing Finn (John Boyega) and Poe (Oscar Isaac) back together and Chewbacca joining them on a mission in which Naomi Ackie’s still unnamed character is also involved.

The project is three weeks into production and StarWarsNews.Net has a new report indicating Abrams rewrote some of the script right before shooting got underway – mostly to incorporate Lando and more Chewbacca into the film.

Everything’s Looser On “Star Wars: Ep 9” Set

everythings-looser-on-star-wars-ep-ix-set-696x464.jpg

The J.J. Abrams-directed “Star Wars: Episode IX,” the last of the ‘trilogy’ that began with ‘Force Awakens,’ has been in production for some months now. As fans continue to debate the fallout from both “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” and the disappointment of “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” many are wondering if the studio and filmmakers will apply a firmer and more controlled grip on the project – cutting off any chance of potentially upsetting fans.

Turns out that’s not the case according to co-star Oscar Isaac. The beloved actor says the cast and crew are more comfortable than ever and tells Indiewire that filming on this is the most relaxed of the three films so far:

“The way they’ve been shooting it right now is looser than it’s been for the last two times. It does feel like a relief to get on set and feel like, ‘Oh, we can try things.’ It’s a testament to J.J. coming back and feeling confident. There’s less pressure for it to be right. We just want to make a good movie and have a really good time while doing it. Often, you do feel like you’ve got to find your way to make something more alive, but this time, it’s been the opposite, there’s no need to smuggle anything in there.”

Isaac also tells Cinema Blend he isn’t shocked at all by the ‘Last Jedi’ backlash, but says the hate was somewhat overblown:

“People had very strong feelings, but there wasn’t as much of an organized way to speak out about it. People that run blogs and websites need content. So it’s like, ‘There’s some content!’ Five people on Twitter. Hundreds. Whatever it is. Then you make it into a story… you make a movie and people are supposed to like, or not like it, or not care about it. Those are the only three options. So it’s not shocking that one of those things happened.”

Production on “Star Wars: Episode IX” is expected to last the rest of the year ahead of a December 2019 release.

Fisher’s Leia Return Will Feel Natural

general-leia-to-appear-in-resistance-696x464.jpg

As has previously been stated, the late Carrie Fisher will return as Princess Leia in “Star Wars: Episode IX” via the use of footage previously shot for the previous two films in the current trilogy.

That has begged obvious questions as to how much and how said footage will be implemented. This week the late actress’ brother has discussed that use of footage a bit more with Good Morning America and says it will go beyond a mere cameo and will feel far more organic to the story than people expect:

“There’s a lot of minutes of footage. I don’t mean just outtakes. This is unused, new content that could be woven into the storyline. That’s what’s going to give everybody such a great kick. It’s going to look like it was meant to be. Like it was shot yesterday. We’re not allowed to talk about the details of anything. But we’re thrilled at what’s been done.”

Disney and Lucasfilm have stated very clearly there’s no plans to use a CG Fisher on screen for the new film which opens in just under a year from now.

Daniels Wraps Work On “Star Wars Episode IX”

daniels-wraps-work-on-star-wars-episode-ix-696x464.jpg

Famed C-3PO actor Anthony Daniels has finished his work on “Star Wars: Episode IX” and what is expected (but not confirmed) to be the final appearance of the gold droid character. Daniels has been in every single major installment of the franchise since the beginning.

The J.J. Abrams-directed film has been in production since August, with only a brief break for the holiday, and Daniels announced that he finished his work with the following message:

“Today was 3PO’s last on Episode IX. He’s sad – so am I. But we’re so proud to have worked with such a lovely, talented cast & crew lead by J.J. & Kathy. I’ll miss everyone but I’m glad to know that we’ve been making something exceptional together, to share with the waiting world.”

Daniels appeared in “Solo: A Star Wars Story” as a character named Tak and could well return for future films whatever they may be.

One person posted what I was thinking: don’t make this another copy and paste film. Of course he was roundly condemned.

I just got through this thread. This guy’s going to direct, no this guy’s going to direct, no (that hack) Abrams is going to direct, Leia will be in the new movie, Leia won’t be in the movie, no she will be in the movie - well I guess all sequels go through this.

Looking forward to seeing Matt Smith though.

Yes, I spotted that.

As the ninth and final Skywalker saga film, I would love this to blow people away, as if the previous 8 installments have been leading to this spectacular .... thing, but I do have a feeling it may indeed be a timid, safe carbon copy of ROTJ or a mish mash of that original trilogy - in some shape or form, sadly.

“Episode IX” Tackles Poe & Leia’s Relationship

episode-ix-tackles-poe-leias-relationship-696x464.jpg

One of the more unexpected relationships in the recent “Star Wars” trilogy has been that of Carrie Fisher’s General Leia Organa and Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron. They barely shared scenes in ‘Force Awakens,’ but the pair offered an intriguing and layered back-and-forth in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”.

Though Fisher’s scenes will be limited in “Star Wars: Episode IX” due to her untimely passing, Isaac says that relationship still ‘gets carried over’ into the new film.

Speaking on the Tell Me John show on SiriusXM (via Reddit), Isaac was asked about working with Fisher on ‘The Last Jedi’ and asked if he was surprised it was such an emotional centerpiece of the film:

Isaac: “I wasn’t surprised because I remember we were doing that…we worked a lot and her, and I worked together so much, too, and we would talk about the scenes, and we would…you know, we got very tight during the shooting of that. So it was a beautiful thing to see, and it gets carried over into the new film.”

Host: “I look forward to having you here next year when we can talk about it because I can only imagine having to work with her, with the scenes they’re inserting, would be emotional for you on a whole other level.”

Isaac: Yeah, no it is. It was definitely an unusual thing, but I also think it was right to engage with her character, and not just let it be something that fades away but can really give it its proper, you know, place of honor.

The new film is expected to use unused footage from both ‘The Force Awakens’ and ‘The Last Jedi’ to bring the character back one last time, though the question lingers as to how much screen time she’ll get and how those scenes will play out in the narrative.
