Woody Allen’s “Rainy Day” Washed Away?

Woody Allen finished filming on “A Rainy Day In New York” almost a year ago, but now word comes via Page Six that the $25 million film has been shelved indefinitely by producer and distributor Amazon Studios.

The service also told the paper “no release date had ever been set” for the film, but a 2018 release was expected as Allen has opened at least one film a year since the early 1980s.

Allen shot “Cafe Society” and “Wonder Wheel” for the service along with the TV series “Crisis in Six Scenes” and while ‘Society’ scored good notices, “Wonder Wheel” bombed on impact in December last year.

Allen’s name has been in countless headlines over the last year as his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow, brought old allegations accusing Allen of child molestation back into the spotlight in the #MeToo era.

Not helping the film’s case is that it reportedly features a scene involving sexual flirtation between an older man and a 15-year-old girl. Timothee Chalamet, Selena Gomez, Elle Fanning, Rebecca Hall, and Jude Law star in the film with both Chalamet and Hall donating their salary from working on the film to Time’s Up and other charities.

Allen has not started a new production, making 2018 the first year in four decades where he does not make a movie. ‘Rainy Day’ will either never see the light of day, or be very quietly dumped onto the service at a much later date (potentially years from now).
