Eleventh Hour Films has optioned the Anthony Horowitz “Alex Rider” book series with plans to turn the novels into a TV series for ITV.

Guy Burt (“The Borgias,” “The Bletchley Circle”) is attached to pen the series which will follow the adventures of teenage super-spy Rider on his missions to save the world.

The TV series will target an older audience than the novels, which targets teen boys, and will be presented as event dramas for family audiences.

Horowitz created the series in 2000, and it has since racked up sixteen million book sales for the English-language editions alone across ten novels. The property was previously adapted into a film, 2006’s “Alex Rider: Stormbreaker,” which starred Alex Pettyfer in the role.

Andreas Prochaska, who helmed the recent “Das Boot” mini-series kicking off on Hulu this month, has signed on to direct and executive produce the upcoming TV series adaptation of Anthony Horowitz’s young adult novel series “Alex Rider”.

Sony Pictures Television and Eleventh Hour Films are funding the show which chronicles the rise of a young, reluctant teenage spy.

Prochaska will direct the first four episodes which will be based on “Point Blanc,” the second novel in the long-running series. Guy Burt (“Harriet’s Army”) will write the script.
