Apple Gets Behind Fuller’s “Amazing Stories”





Apple is set to team with Amblin Television and NBCUniversal for “Amazing Stories,” a reboot of the iconic anthology series reports The Wall Street Journal.

As previously reported, “Hannibal” and “American Gods” creator Bryan Fuller serves as showrunner on the series with ten episodes in total having been ordered. Each episode, which blends genres like fantasy, sci-fi and horror will sport a sizable $5 million budget.

The original series ran for two seasons, won five Emmys, and involved some notable directors for each episode including Steven Spiekberg, Clint Eastwood, Martin Scorsese, Irvin Kershner, Robert Zemeckis, Brad Bird and Joe Dante.

The announcement follows in the wake of Apple recently hiring Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht from Sony Television specifically to create original programming for the tech giant. How this original content will be distributed remains unclear at this time.

Bryan Fuller Departs “Amazing Stories” Reboot





In what has become an all too common bit of phrasing, beloved TV series producer Bryan Fuller has exited one of his series – in this case the “Amazing Stories” reboot in development at Apple.

“Bones” producer Hart Hanson, who had partnered with Fuller, has also exited the anthology drama with Universal Television now searching for a showrunner. Fuller’s departure is said to be amicable and due to creative differences.

Fuller, who became attached in late 2015, reportedly wanted to do a “Black Mirror”-type show, which sources say is not what Apple had in mind.

The departure comes after Fuller and Michael Green were fired from Starz’ “American Gods” after one season following a budget dispute, and after Fuller was asked to step down from “Star Trek: Discovery” over issues with budget, casting and more.

Fuller is now working with Paramount Television to adapt Anne Rice’s “Vampire Chronicles” to the screen.

“Time” Duo To Produce “Amazing Stories” Reboot





“Once Upon a Time” co-creators and “Tron: Legacy” scribes Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis have signed on as executive producers and showrunners for the “Amazing Stories” series reboot at Apple.

Horowitz and Kitsis, who got their start writing various J.J. Abrams series like “Felicity” and “Lost,” take over after the departure of original showrunner Bryan Fuller and executive producer Hart Hanson in February.

The announcement comes just days after ‘Time’ aired its series finale on ABC after seven seasons. Horowitz and Kitsis have also signed a four-year extension of their current deal at ABC Studios.

The anthology series originally ran for two seasons in the mid-80s on NBC. Original series co-creator Steven Spielberg serves as executive producer on the Apple version via Amblin Television. Ten episodes have been ordered.
