So, in my search for "weird things to do with TV knowledge", here's the latest challenge:

I've noticed we have some incredibly knowledgable members when it comes to shows that date back a bit. ant mac & The Seeker seem to be the ones to beat especially when it comes to the pre-90s Doctor Who shows. Doc Omega seems to know just about everything going on with film and chainsawmetal1 is a virtual wealth of knowledge on just about any and everything you might consider unexpected. TheSowisMine is just.... TSiM! Duzit is, well, the perfect lateral thinker! I simply refuse to try and predict what Carol is going to know about.... and all of the rest of you need to join in so all of us can learn more about you. Don't be worried, I screw up on everything all the time.... just to keep DeJ on his toes! Right buddy?!

With all of that in mind, here's the challenge:

Choose a TV show or a movie and come up with an episode of the early Twilight Zone or The Outer Limits to compare it to. That should give us hundreds of episodes to work with. Explanations needed only if asked for or you want to and you may list one or many. (I'm going to limit myself for a change just to see if I can be limited; god help me!) :emoji_hugging:
    Here we go.....

    1) The Stepford Wives / Outer Limits: To Serve Man (when you get waaaaaay more than you want or were expecting!.... or "nothing is really what it seems on the surface")

Well, it just so happens that I’ve been re-watching the entire TV series of THE TWILIGHT ZONE (1959) over the last six months or so. Therefore, I feel that I’m reasonably well-positioned to accept your challenge. By the way, I also happen to own the original short story by Damon Knight. It’s certainly worth a read if you ever get the chance.

SUNSET BOULEVARD versus THE TWILIGHT ZONE - THE SIXTEEN-MILLIMETER SHRINE.

Both stories feature an aging film star who spends her life reminiscing about her past glories.

DOCTOR WHO - TIME-FLIGHT versus THE TWILIGHT ZONE - THE ODYSSEY OF FLIGHT 33.

Both stories feature a modern jet airliner - at the time of production - that travels back millions of years through time.

TOY STORY versus THE TWILIGHT ZONE - FIVE CHARACTERS IN SEARCH OF AN EXIT.

Both stories feature toys that are capable of coming to life and leading an independent life.

By the way, my expertise and knowledge does extend beyond the realms of DOCTOR WHO and STAR TREK. :emoji_wink:

Well, of course you have! :emoji_face_palm: It's like you just knew I was going to post this!

That goes without saying AM, but let's face it, if I really worked on listing everything you're truly knowledgeable about:
    1) There'd be no room to say anything about anyone else! :emoji_alien:
    2) New members would be utterly overwhelmed. :emoji_scream:
    3) No room to even post the question! :emoji_robot:

This thread is going to open up a bunch of cool things to watch again! I'm really excited.

How about The Munsters vs. The Eye of the Beholder? A little spurious I know but the similarity is in what the viewer sees. The "normal" people of the State look like monsters to the audience but are considered attractive, and the Munsters consider themselves normal and Marilyn freakish. Yeah it's early in the morning for me. Better comparisons will come soon.

Not so my friend! Eye of the Beholder has always been one of my favorite episodes and The Munsters is kind of like "through the looking glass" on the other side! It's a brilliant combination and I love it! Can't wait to rewatch "Eye of" and then compare the two.

    Thanks!

I love the idea Janine, but I crash and burn at the first hurdle - 2 things I don't know about are The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits! Guess I'll be sitting this one out, while reading and learning fro everyone else's suggestions.

Woe is me - Doctor Who aside, I'm much better on horror and detectives than sci-fi... we must have had them in England, because I've heard of them, but beyond that - d'oh!

That's so genius I want to hug you! For some reason, I've never drawn that parallel before, and that's one of my favorite episodes.

I have to go back to work, so I'll think more on this and be back later. This is Christmas!

THE SIXTH SENSE versus THE TWILIGHT ZONE - THE HITCH-HIKER.

Both stories feature a person who does not realize they are dead.

STAR TREK - REQUIEM FOR METHUSELAH versus THE TWILIGHT ZONE - LONG LIVE WALTER JAMESON.

Both stories feature an apparently normal person who is revealed to have lived for thousands of years.

MANNEQUIN versus THE TWILIGHT ZONE - THE AFTER HOURS.

Both stories feature a shop mannequin that is capable of coming to life and leading an independent life.

Doctor Who - Midnight vs. The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street

There's an alien threat in both, but they stand back and watch their victims attack each other out of sheer paranoia. We actually read the script as a play in one of my junior high classes. I got to be the obnoxious woman accusing everybody. That was fun.

TWILIGHT ZONE - BACK THERE vs. QUANTUM LEAP - LEE HARVEY OSWALD

A man goes back in time and has the chance to stop the assassination of one of the most respected presidents in history, and in both stories, they fail in their mission.

TWILIGHT ZONE - STATIC vs. FREQUENCY

In one story, an old man is able to receive old radio shows that have long been cancelled. In the other, a young man is able to speak to his long dead father in the past via a HAM radio.

    This is possibly.....

    The best idea....

    I've seen out there.....

    For "Powerwatching" over the week-end!

And the list of what to spend it watching has been contributed by some of the greatest TV-viewing minds I know!

We are a weird and wonderful bunch! We give "answers" before the "questions" even get asked and do it just so we can be helpful: (@Alex, @DeJ, @ant-mac, @duzit, @Carol, @The Seeker, @Doctor Omega, @chainsaw_metal1 and all of you others who know who you are and continue to do so as selflessly as always). We support wholeheartedly the utter crazy and completely mad. We give emotional hugs wherever and whenever necessary and we.... mostly.... help little old ladies across the street (unless of course, they are actually "Grannie Gangs" in disguise in which case we give them what for!! Whatever that may happen to be at the moment)!

We are Brown Coats and Whovians, "filmfanatics" and Seekers of... whatever we want to be! We are "Potterettes" and "Trekkers", we are "Gatefans" and whackjobs (cause we need to celebrate those crazy aunts and uncles we keep locked up in our attics!).

But mostly, we are just us. Whatever the hell that may be! At this time in our lives, at this day of the week on whatever little spot on this little blue marble floating in space has us located.... Here we are.

I am so grateful for us! And now I got a way to say it and a bunch of bloody brilliant shows to binge on over the week-end.... if it ever comes! So keep on comparing! It's clear I've got some homework to do but if and I do mean if, I can come up with enough of a description of the other (I've got the first half nailed) then I'll have a name for both halves that I can be proud of..... You guys are a seriously tough crowd! One I hope will all continue to let this list keep "percolating" as I'm starting to see the real seeds of obscure and undiscovered genius here!

Love you lots and lots; just because you're here! :emoji_bouquet: :emoji_bug: :emoji_butterfly:

:emoji_chipmunk: (pretend they're chinchillas... mine needed a "shout out") :emoji_comet:

:emoji_guitar: I'm thinking it was a Led Zeppelin "Ramble On" kinda post :emoji_musical_score:

I also answer to "geek", "nerd", "fanboy", "horror fanatic", "rebel scum", "gangster of love", "the guy playing bass", "Lub (short for Caleb)", "hey, psycho, get out of my bedroom", and "Vicky".

And many moons ago, in the early days of the interwebs, there were whispers that I may or may not have been known to some as the Jedi Bastard. It's all just a legend now, like tears in the rain...

When you see a red text like this it is Staff and towards the member that the posts belongs to. Only we will edit post and use red to make sure members know it is us.

If someone would tell another member that he was breaking the rules then they most likely will not use a coloured text.

Please do not worry Janine, all is good [IMG]

I think that comment was for me. I forgot about not double posting. You're in the clear, not me. My bad.
