That Boba Fett Film Is Still Moving Forward

star-wars-boba-fett-weapon.jpg

The “Star Wars” film slate is surprisingly robust at the moment. There’s Rian Johnson’s “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” this week, Ron Howard’s “Solo: A Star Wars Story” in 2018, J.J. Abrams’ ‘Episode IX’ in 2019, Stephen Daldry’s Obi-Wan Kenobi film likely in 2020, and Johnson’s first of a new trilogy films shortly after.

Still ticking away in active development though is the Boba Fett film, with a report today from Omega Underground indicating that the film is going by the working title of “Tin Can”. No production date has been listed, but the film is expected to shoot partly at Pinewood Studios in England.

Kathleen Kennedy and Lawrence Kasdan are listed as the producers, as now is Simon Kinberg according to the report. Additionally the production company listed is Stannum 50 Labs (Stannum is ‘tin’ and 50 is its atomic weight). Back when Josh Trank was slated to do a spin-off, his take used the same working title and production company.

No director is set, though Kennedy has been publicly praising “Thor: Ragnarok” director Taika Waititi and seems open to the idea of him doing a “Star Wars” film. Waititi, however, works very much to his own rhythm like Phil Lord & Chris Miller do so the pairing may not be a good one.

“Logan” Helmer To Direct A Boba Fett Film

“Logan” helmer James Mangold is set to write and direct a standalone “Star Wars” movie centered on the bounty hunter character Boba Fett.

“Dark Phoenix” director Simon Kinberg was previously rumored to be working on a Boba Fett movie and sources indicate he and Mangold will co-write the script with Kinberg also producing.

The news comes as Disney and Lucasfilm release the latest “A Star Wars Story” stand-alone film “Solo” on Friday – the second of the ‘anthology’ films.

Lucasfilm is also developing an Obi-Wan Kenobi film which has Stephen Daldry in negotiations to direct. That has no writers attached.

Kennedy: The “Boba Fett” Film Is Dead

kennedy-the-boba-fett-film-is-dead-696x464.jpg

It’s official, the proposed “Boba Fett” movie is dead.

Emmy-winning Sirius XM journalist Erick Weber has posted a tweet last night saying Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy confirmed to him personally that: “[the] Boba Fett movie is 100% dead” and all development on the project has been re-focused on the currently in production “The Mandalorian” TV series from executive producer Jon Favreau.

“Chronicle” director Josh Trank was linked as a potential director years ago, while “Logan” director James Mangold was also mentioned at one point. However with the failure of “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” Disney is retooling its ‘anthology’ film approach and the Fett project is now a confirmed victim.

The update from Kennedy comes as The Blast reported yesterday that a police investigation has been launched into a theft of sensitive equipment on the Manhattan Beach studio set.

“The Mandalorian,” the first live-action “Star Wars” series, will be coming exclusively to Disney’s streamings service sometime next year and follows the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic. It’s slated to debut exclusively on Disney’s upcoming direct to consumer streaming service launching late 2019.

Boba Fett Was To Expand On “Empire” Scene

Following on from the news that the “Boba Fett” standalone ‘A Star Wars Story’ film is officially dead, more details about what was in the works have begun to crop up.

EW has confirmed through sources that the film would have focused on Fett and the menagerie of bounty hunters who appeared alongside him on the deck of the Super Star Destroyer in “The Empire Strikes Back”. You can see the scene below.

The report also says that despite fan theories, the upcoming live-action TV series “The Mandalorian” will not feature Boba Fett. Josh Trank was originally attached to direct the “Boba Fett” film back when it was first in development in 2015.
