Captive State
Director: Rupert Wyatt (“Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” “The Gambler”)
Cast: John Goodman, Vera Farmiga, Ashton Sanders, Alan Ruck, Kevin Dunn
Details: Filmmaker Rupert Wyatt is as famous for starting and then leaving projects as much as the ones he’s actually made. He’s nearly finished this one, a $25 million dark sci-fi tale set nearly a decade after a global occupation by an extraterrestrial force. The narrative shows the lives of people within a Chicago neighborhood on both sides of the conflict.

Shot on location in Chicago, the Focus Features title should yield at least another great performance by John Goodman in a high-concept sci-fi film like we got with last year’s “10 Cloverfield Lane”. Wyatt meanwhile is three for three in terms of good finished films so far, so chances are good.

Focus Features has delayed “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” and “The Gambler” director Rupert Wyatt’s sci-fi feature “Captive State” by a full nine months, pushing the film back from August 17th this year to March 29th 2019.

John Goodman, Vera Farmiga and Ashton Sanders star in the film about the lives of a Chicago neighborhood a decade after occupation by an extraterrestrial force. The film was shot just over a year ago, so the delay suggests some reshoots may be in order.

Filmmaker Rupert Wyatt is as famous for starting and then leaving projects as much as the ones he’s actually made. He’s finished this one though, a $25 million dark sci-fi tale set nearly a decade after a global occupation by an extraterrestrial force has enslaved the world under the guise of peaceful unity. The narrative shows the lives of people within a Chicago neighborhood on both sides of the conflict with John Goodman as a cop who recruits a fallen soldier’s son (Ashton Sanders) to help spread the truth. Vera Farmiga, James Ransone, Kevin J. O’Connor, Kiki Layne and Jonathan Majors also star in the film.
