Your thoughts on this episode.....

Tarrant's twin-brother Deeta is competing in a gladiatorial ceremony, where combatants fight each other to the death in a duel (Interplanetary feuds are settled into combat). When Deeta is killed by the android Vinni. Tarrant decides to take on Vinni himself, only to learn Servalan is acting as a judge and she is manipulating events to trigger off a real war.

A great episode, even though, once Tarrant's brother pops up so soon after Cally's sister, you do wonder if everybody is going to end up having a twin, should the series continue.

Actually, I think they missed a trick and could have had Vila having an incredibly brave - Ace Rimmer-type - twin brother. Hope Big Finish aren't reading this. It'll get ripped off! :emoji_alien:

Many fans preferred Deeta to Del and would not have minded him swapping and seeing Del get killed off instead. I don't know though. Between Avon and Deeta, all of that macho posturing could have gotten old real quick. Also, with Deeta being a trained killing machine, how much fun was he gonna be as a crewmate, when he could blow your head off at any minute.

The death of Deeta is really well directed.

And as for Avon and Servalan's "I'm ready to come up now!" moment.... :emoji_alien:

A good solid episode.

Not the original broadcast, but a typical evening's telly on BBC when this episode was repeated (during that long gap between seasons 3 and 4) in 1981......

DEATHWATCH starts at 9:25.....
