“Always Sunny” regular Charlie Day will star, write, produce and make his directorial debut on the Hollywood comedy “El Tonto” at Armory Films and Metalwork Pictures. The story follows an idiot deaf mute who becomes a celebrity and loses it all. Shooting begins in Los Angeles next month.

Kate Beckinsale, Jason Sudeikis, Edie Falco, John Malkovich and Jillian Bell are all closing deals to join Charlie Day’s feature directorial debut “El Tonto” at Armory Films and Metalworks Pictures. John Rickard and Alex Saks are producing and filming begins later this month in Los Angeles.

The story follows a mute simpleton who gets off a bus in Los Angeles and by happenstance suddenly rises through the Hollywood scene to become a celebrity, only to then lose it all. Beckinsale will play a Hollywood starlet, Sudeikis a film director.
