Universal Pictures has announced plans for a re-imagining of the 1996 psychological thriller “Fear” which starred Reese Witherspoon and Mark Wahlberg.

James Foley directed and Chistopher Crowe penned the original in which an upper-middle class family find their seemingly perfect existence threatened when their teenage daughter begins dating an attractive and mysterious young man, much to the chagrin of her father (William Petersen).

Alyssa Milano and Amy Brenneman also starred in the film dubbed “Fatal Attraction for teens”. Critically derided at the time, it has become a minor cult film in the years since.

Oscar-nominated “Straight Outta Compton” co-scribe Jonathan Herman has been hired to write the script for the new take. Brian Grazer, who produced the original, returns for the new take which will tell the story from a female perspective.
