Trailer: Netflix’s King Adaptation “Gerald’s Game”

The first trailer has arrived for “Hush” and “Oculus” director Mike Flanagan’s film adaptation of Stephen King’s acclaimed novel “Gerald’s Game” for Netflix.

Never adapted to the screen before and often considered one of the most unfilmable of all of Stephen King’s works due to its narrative structure and perspective (and difficulty making cinematic), the well-regarded Flanagan is having a go in what’s dubbed a fairly faithful adaptation. As this was conceived for the streaming service from the get go, he has been given essentially free reign to create something potentially unique.

Set almost entirely in a single room in a remote cabin, the story follows an older married couple (Carla Gugino, Bruce Greenwood) who tries to spice up their sex life. She accidentally kills her husband while handcuffed to the bed and, following the subsequent realization that she is trapped alone with little hope of rescue, begins to let the voices inside her head take over.

“Gerald’s Game” will debut on Netflix everywhere on September 29th.
