I remember an interview with Nigel Kneale where he was very unhappy at what had been done to his script for this movie, calling John Carpenter a "very strange man" and stating that he had "Carpentered my script into sawdust!"

He was also not impressed at the credit of "Martin Quatermass" that Carpenter had used on PRINCE OF DARKNESS, taking it as an insult or Carpenter getting petty revenge in some way - and not as an affectionate homage.

Then again, Nigel Kneale seemed to fall out with everybody he ever worked with!

In response, Carpenter pointed out that THE QUATERMASS CONCLUSION reflected pretty accurately the kind of man Kneale was now. Weary - with a cynical attitude towards the younger generation around him.

Around this time, Kneale was also involved in a mooted remake of CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON with John Landis (I think) that came to nothing.
