“Sausage Party” Helmer Tackles “The Jetsons”





“Shrek 2” and “Sausage Party” co-director Conrad Vernon is developing with an eye to direct the long in the works film adaptation of the classic Hanna-Barbera television series “The Jetsons” for Warner Animation Group.

Warner Bros. Pictures have been trying to adapt the property since the late 1990s but has previously focused on a live-action version. This development confirms plans to take the property in an animated direction.

The original early 1960s cartoon focused on the misadventures of a family in the distant future – one of homes in the sky, hover cars, robot servants and other tech advances. The show was a Saturday morning cartoon staple and in syndication for decades.

Vernon is a DreamWorks Animation vet who, along with having helmed multiple films, voiced the Gingerbread Man in the “Shrek” movies.

Don't be silly. Without the visionaries from Hollywood, we wouldn't have had movies such as Fant4stic, Jack and Jill, Grown Ups, and of course, M Night Shyamalan's "interpretation" of The Last Airbender. I think you'd have to agree that the world would be a very different place without those. I mean, we'd probably have cured cancer or invented faster than light travel, or something equally silly if we didn't have exciting films like these to watch.

“The Jetsons” Being Turned Into Live-Action Series





Warner Bros. Television is reportedly developing a live-action multi-camera “The Jetsons” comedy TV series with filmmaker Robert Zemeckis attached to executive produce.

Like the original early 1960s Hanna-Barbera cartoon, this will be set a century into the future. The story focused on the misadventures of a family in the distant future – one of homes in the sky, hover cars, robot servants and other tech advances. The show was a Saturday morning cartoon staple and in syndication for decades.

Jack Rapke will also executive produce the series which is separate from the feature film adaptation which “Sausage Party” co-director Conrad Vernon is developing with an eye to direct.

The Live-Action “Jetsons” Pilot is A Go





ABC has given the green light to a live-action pilot based on the classic animated series “The Jetsons” which Warner Bros. Television will produce.

Like the original early 1960s Hanna-Barbera cartoon which was in syndication for decades, this will be set a century into the future. The story focused on the misadventures of a family in the distant future – one of homes in the sky, hover cars, robot servants and other tech advances.

Gary Janetti (“Family Guy,” “Will & Grace”) will write and executive produce the multi-cam sitcom with Robert Zemeckis and Jack Rapke also executive producing.

“The Jetsons” is confirmed as still on the slate, with filmmaker Robert Zemeckis. Though filmed in front of a live studio audience, Dungey believes plans are to incorporate futuristic visual effects:

“That is what I’m really looking forward to hearing. The team has already had a number of conversations with Zemeckis and the rest of the group. They have some really good ideas about how they want to pull that off. I have not yet been part of those conversations because I haven’t seen the script yet. They don’t want to tell me how that works until I’ve read the pages.”

Live-Action 'Jetsons' Series May be in the Works at ABC

According to ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey, a pilot for a live-action 'Jetsons' series is in development at the network. The classic animated comedy series, which originally aired in the 1960s, follows the lives of George and Jane Jetson and their children Judy and Elroy along with their dog Astro and robot Rosie in the year 2062. Back in 2015, Deadline reported that work was underway on a full-length 'Jetsons' movie.
