John Carpenter Creates Theme For Shudder

These days filmmaker John Carpenter is happily enjoying his retirement, movie making no longer holding much interest as instead he’s playing video games and making music.

He did come back out to play a little this year, serving as a consultant, producer and crafting the entire score for the new “Halloween”. Now he’s also done a little side job – he’s created a musical theme for the horror streaming service Shudder.

Laced with his trademark synth sound, Carpenter has come up with two versions which you can hear below. One is a full theme at nearly two minutes, the other a five-second version for interstitials featuring the Shudder logo. The new theme makes its debut today during a 24-hour streaming marathon of Carpenter’s original “Halloween”.

In a press release, Shudder GM Craig Engler says: “We wanted to create a one-of-a-kind audio identity for Shudder and the first person we thought of was John Carpenter. We approached John and to our delight, he was enthusiastic about the idea and came up with an iconic theme that will enchant and thrill Shudder members every time they hear it.”

This follows on from recent comments by Carpenter hinting that a TV series based on Carpenter’s 1987 film “Prince of Darkness” could be on the way at Shudder.
