The trailer has hit for “Journey’s End,” a new film based on the Tony Award-winning play and novel “Journey’s End” by R.C. Sherriff. Playing to strong reviews at Toronto last year, it will open in cinemas on March 16th.

March 1918. C-company arrives to take its turn in the front-line trenches of northern France, led by the war-weary Captain Stanhope (Sam Claflin). With a German offensive imminently approaching, the officers (Paul Bettany, Stephen Graham, Tom Sturridge) and their cook (Toby Jones) use food and the memories of their lives before the war to distract themselves.

A young officer, Raleigh (Asa Butterfield), arrives fresh out of training and abuzz with the excitement of his first real posting – not least because he is to serve under Stanhope, his former schoolhouse monitor and the object of his sister’s affections. Each man is trapped, the days ticking by, the tension rising and the attack drawing ever closer.

Before they made "Frankenstein", James Whale and Colin Clive participated in a film adaptation of R.C. Sherriff's classic WW1 play, "Journey's End". Critically acclaimed at the time, it has become overshadowed by another war film released the same year, "All Quiet on the Western Front". Now unfortunately nearly forgotten, this gripping account of a group of men in a trench deserves another look and a greater appreciation.
