Colin Trevorrow is confirmed to be not just writing but also directing the third installment in the “Jurassic World” franchise for Universal Pictures.

Trevorrow and Derek Connolly co-wrote 2015’s “Jurassic World” which Trevorrow directed. The pair also wrote this year’s “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” but J.A. Bayona took over as director on that project.

Now Trevorrow returns to helm the third film which aims to be the “concluding chapter” of the trilogy and will work with “Pacific Rim: Uprising” scribe Emily Carmichael on the script which is based on a story he created with Connolly.

Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley will also be back as producers, and Steven Spielberg will be back as executive producer. Spielberg himself revealed the news to EW this morning.

“Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” is due in cinemas June 22nd. No word on a release date for the third one though judging by their release pattern it’s likely a Summer 2021 release.

“Jurassic World 3” Won’t Shift To The Inner City

With the end of “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” showcasing a new Earth on which mankind must now live alongside dinosaur, there’s been excitement over where the series could go next.

Writer/director Colin Trevorrow, speaking with JP Outpost, says the series will try and keep things grounded despite all its success lately. That includes keeping the creatures out of the major cities and behaving like animals:

“I just have no idea what would motivate dinosaurs to terrorize a city. They can’t organize. Right now we’ve got lethal predators in wild areas surrounding cities all over the world. They don’t go pack hunting for humans in urban areas.

The world I get excited about is the one where it’s possible that a dinosaur might run out in front of your car on a foggy backroad, or invade your campground looking for food. A world where dinosaur interaction is unlikely but possible – the same way we watch out for bears or sharks. We hunt animals, we traffic them, we herd them, we breed them, we invade their territory and pay the price, but we don’t go to war with them. If that was the case, we’d have lost that war a long time ago.”

A third film in the series is in the works and is aiming for a June 2021 release.

Nickelodeon will launch the LEGO-themed animated thirteen-part miniseries “Lego Jurassic World: Legend of Isla Nublar” in the United States on September 14th. The miniseries takes place before the events of “Jurassic World”.

Newly hired animal behaviourist, Owen Grady, and Assistant Manager of Park Operations, Claire Dearing, team up on Isla Nublar to deal with everything the Jurassic World park throws their way, including runaway dinosaurs, ongoing construction to expand the park, throngs of tourists, unpredictable tropical weather and an impulsive boss.
