“Justice League” Gets A New End In Reshoots

justice-league-got-a-new-end-in-reshoots-696x464.jpg

We’ve heard about the Joss Whedon-led reshoots for Zack Snyder’s “Justice League” being used to change the film’s tone, but now two new reports suggest more serious changes to the narrative are afoot.

The first comes from Slashfilm which indicates that the film’s original ending, which would have seen Darkseid’s arrival on Earth, has been scrapped. When “Justice League” was planned as two films and when the DCEU’s future was mapped out, this made sense.

Now though, it’s viewed as an unnecessary cliffhanger and so has been dropped. On top of that, the first film’s villain Steppenwolf has been beefed up with Robin Wright’s “Wonder Woman” character being brought in to participate a flashback shedding more light on Steppenwolf’s origin and the threat of Darkseid being downplayed.

A common theme to reports are that the reshoots are more extensive than originally suggested, but a bigger surprise is the one from Batman-on Film. Unlike various rumors in the past which come from anonymous redditors, this is the editor of arguably the biggest DC film news fansite on the web.

Commenting on the Joe Morton quotes from the other day, they say:

“I can confirm that everything Mr. Morton said is spot-on. The Cyborg character was altered quite a bit during the reshoots. Also, as I’ve been saying since June 2nd of this year, the JL reshoots and the resulting changes being made to the film are significant.

These reshoots – which are still taking place – are not standard pick-ups/additional photography. Why? Apparently, an early cut of the film was deemed ‘unwatchable’. Thus, substantial changes to the film were ordered.

With all that said folks, I’ll say again what I’ve been saying for quite a while now: I 100% believe that Warner Bros., Joss Whedon, and all involved are doing everything they can to make JUSTICE LEAGUE a good film.”

“Justice League” is not slated to hit cinemas until November 17th, but even so it sounds like it will be tinkered with right up until release.

‘Justice League’ actor says Joss Whedon reshoots will “lighten up the film”

Justice-League.jpg

Joe Morton today, who plays Cyborg’s dad/”inventor” Dr. Silas Stone in Justice League confirmed that he worked on the reshoots with director Joss Whedon, and revealed that they changed the tone of Ray Fisher’s character, Cyborg. He also said that Warner Bros. wanted to “lighten up the film” with the reshoots because they felt it was too dark.

Check out an excerpt from the IGN interview below:

IGN: Did you work on the Joss Whedon portion of filming that’s been going on or were you strictly on the Zack Snyder portion of the shoot?

Joe Morton: No, I did some reshoots with Joss.

IGN: Can you say what’s different? Is there’s any difference in tone?

Morton: Well, the stuff that I had to do were just really small little bits and pieces, nothing necessarily having to do with tone. I know that with Ray [Fisher], the young man who plays [Cyborg], there were some adjustments that they made in terms of the tone of that character. I think what I heard was that there was a need from the studio to lighten up the film in a way, that the film felt too dark. I don’t know what that meant in terms of how it actually got translated in terms of the reshoots but that’s what I heard. That’s what I thought some of the reshoots were about.

Rumour: Early cut of Justice League deemed “unwatchable”, ending reportedly changed

Justice-League-promo-banner-1-600x309.jpg

Over the past couple of months, Justice League has been undergoing some expensive reshoots under director Joss Whedon, who stepped in to take over the DC blockbuster after Zack Snyder’s daughter passed away.

As you’d expect with a film of this magnitude, there’s been plenty of rumour and speculation surrounding said reshoots, with reports claiming they will greatly alter the film, while members of the cast such as Ray Fisher and Ben Affleck have played down the speculation by calling them standard.

Chances are we’ll never fully know the reasoning behind the reshoots, but according to a report from Batman-on-Film, the answer is quite simple – “an early cut of the film was deemed ‘unwatchable'”, with the studio then demanding substantial changes to the film.

There is of course nothing to substantiate this report, but it should probably be noted that BoF did originally report that the reshoots would take place throughout June, July and into August, which has proven to be the case. And, if it is true, fans should probably take some solace in the fact that Warner Bros. has invested heavily in trying to fix any issues.

Meanwhile, on /Film Daily, it’s been claimed that Joss Whedon will be completely changing the ending of the movie; apparently, the film would have concluded with Darkseid arriving on Earth, setting the stage for Justice League 2. However, the movie will reportedly now downplay the threat of Darkseid and feel more like a complete movie as opposed to a cliffhanger for a sequel.

Eisenberg’s Luthor Cut From “Justice League”?

eisenbergs-luthor-cut-from-justice-league-696x464.jpg

Back in November, a press release confirmed Jesse Eisenberg would be returning as Lex Luthor in Zack Snyder’s “Justice League” film.

With that film undergoing reshoots under the direction of Joss Whedon, a new rumor from Batman-On-Film suggests that with the film’s new direction, Eisenberg’s few scenes in the DC hero team-up film have now been cut.

This follows on from several reports that Joss Whedon is making major changes to Zack Snyder’s original vision including the ending. Snyder’s still keeping an eye out though and recently posted a behind-the-scenes shot of Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry and titled it “Last shot of Jason in Iceland #JL”.

Momoa is currently at work on “Aquaman” with Nicole Kidman this week posting photos confirmed she’s currently shooting her scenes as Queen Atlanna for James Wan’s comic adaptation. Sadly they were only tourist shots and none of her costume or the set.

In related news, the more supernatural-themed “Justice League” dark is reportedly going back in for a script overhaul. Trade reporter Justin Kroll says “recent presentations by directors underwhelmed execs” and so the project is getting overhauled again.

“Justice League” Reshoots Aren’t That Extensive?

justice-league-reshoots-arent-that-extensive-696x464.jpg

A few months ago, a personal tragedy led to Zack Snyder stepping away from the helm of “Justice League” which had wrapped principal photography and was in early post-production.

Snyder handed the reigns over to Joss Whedon who stepped in to handle the already scheduled additional photography on the film. At the time it was said the reshoots wouldn’t be that extensive, but there was difficulty with actor’s scheduling.

Since then of course, reports as to the extent of the reshoots and how much they will impact the final film’s tone and narrative seemingly grow larger and wilder by the day. It has gotten to the point that there’s confusion as to how much of Snyder’s original vision will remain in the final film.

Quite a lot according to both actress Gal Gadot and a recent report from SuperheroNews.com. The latter said this week that: “The majority of the footage that you’re going to see on the screen is still the footage that was previously shot during principal photography” and it appears as if Whedon hasn’t deviated from the plan and is just filming some additional material.

Gadot meanwhile tells Rolling Stone that Whedon can’t really change the tone much because so much of the movie is already in place: “Look, Joss, to my understanding, was Zack’s choice to finish the movie. And the tone can’t be completely different because the movie was already shot. Joss is just fine-tuning.”

“Justice League” opens in cinemas on November 17th.

Whedon Getting “Justice League” Script Credit

whedon-getting-justice-league-script-credit-696x464.jpg

Warner Bros. Pictures has officially announced that filmmaker Joss Whedon will receive screenplay credit on the upcoming “Justice League” film.

The credit, which comes from the just released Warner Bros. Pictures press preview kit, reads as Whedon and Chris Terrio penning the screenplay from a story by Terrio and Zack Snyder.

Whedon does not currently have a producer or executive producer credit on the film, which he’s currently directing additional photography on. He is also overseeing the completion of its post production.

He will NOT, however, receive an on-screen credit for directing. Snyder previously departed the project following the tragic passing of his daughter and remains the film’s sole credited director.

“Justice League” opens in cinemas on November 10th 2017.

Baruchel Talks Abandoned “Justice League”

baruchel-talks-abandoned-justice-league-696x464.jpg

A decade ago, George Miller was working on and then ultimately had to abandon the DC superhero team-up film “Justice League Mortal”.

The project would’ve seen the likes of Armie Hammer as Batman, D.J. Cotrona as Superman, Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, Common as Green Lantern, Adam Brody as The Flash, Santiago Cabrera as Aquaman, Teresa Palmer as Talia al Ghul, Jay Baruchel as the villain Maxwell Lord, and ‘Fury Road’ villain Hugh Keays-Byrne as Martian Manhunter.

Development and pre-production went well with the project getting as far as full costume fittings. Problems then began to arise including the crippling writer’s strike, changing currency values and the lack of a very necessary tax credit from the Australian government that was key to the project’s plan to film in Australia. Ultimately the film fell apart.

Baruchel has now shared some new details about what the project would’ve contained in a recent episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast. He says:

“They had all the costume design. They had all of the pre-vis. They had all of the sort of production design figured out, and so they would take us and walk us through this command center where they had everything. The aesthetic choices that they were making and the story and character choices they were making are so ballsy, and we won’t ever see it… Imagine Miller doing [Zack] Snyder … it was very tableau … they were paintings. And what the characters were doing had such teeth to it.”

Baruchel goes on to discuss a scene in which his character Maxwell Lord brainwashes Clark Kent and uses him to take on other DC heroes, even as it causes Lord to bleed from multiple orifices from the effort:

“All of a sudden this guy’s got Superman as a weapon. I turn him into full red eye Superman, and then there’s this big ass fight between him and Wonder Woman, where he breaks her f–king wrists and s–t.

The first time you see Wonder Woman, the opening scene on Themyscira, it was just her. It’s her on top of a steed … and she stood about half a kilometer away from a Minotaur. The Minotaur has a battle-ax in his hand and she just rushes him.

All the Amazons are there cheering her on, and she just beheads him. Gets off her steed … holds up the Minotaur thing and doesn’t say a goddamned thing. It’s like, ‘That’s the Wonder Woman I want to see!’ It would have been special.”

We’ll see Zack Snyder’s interpretation of the characters when the current incarnation of “Justice League” hits cinemas November 17th.

“Justice League” Headed For $150M Opening?

elfman-replaces-junkie-xl-on-justice-league-696x464.jpg

Nearly two months out from release, the earliest box-office projections for Zack Snyder & Joss Whedon’s “Justice League” film are in.

According to Box Office Pro, indications are that the film is on track for a $150 million opening weekend and a potential eventual haul of $330 million in North America.

That opening would put it behind “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” which debuted to $166 million, but would put it ahead of “Thor: Ragnarok” which opens just before it and is estimated to be tracking for a $100 million opening.

The estimate comes as Batman News reports that actress Kiersey Clemons and her Iris West character have been cut from the film with fan speculation rising that the part will be recast.

“Justice League” opens November 17th.

Anyone else think that this will have a big opening weekend - and then a dramatic drop thereafter?
Well most films do, realistically. I guess it will depend on word of mouth after the first weekend. Truthfully, I'm not sure why there's such a rush to see movies on opening weekend. I generally prefer to wait and see what others think, especially with a franchise like DC that doesn't have a great history.

Yes, I prefer to avoid those opening crowds, also to lessen the chance of people around me talking, flashing their phones or shouting out the entire plot as the film progresses. To be honest, it's always a relief when hardly anyone else is in the cinema. :emoji_alien:

Most movies I'm fine waiting a week or two to go and see. But for the big ones, I like going on opening weekend, if possible. I miss the midnight premieres, because 90% of those crowds were the die-hard fans. I went to all of the Star Wars prequel midnight openings, one or two of the Harry Potters, and I think I went to Return of the King at midnight, as well as Man of Steel and a few others. Those nights were crazy!

New “Justice League” BTS Reel & Story Details

new-justice-league-bts-reel-story-details-696x464.jpg

More behind-the-scenes details regarding Zack Snyder’s “Justice League” have arrived, as has a new featurette regarding the film’s making. As part of a new cover story for Empire regarding the film, there’s a couple of key quotes and non-spoiler reveals.

Gal Gadot says despite the success of “Wonder Woman,” the screen time she has is comparable to the others:

“Diana serves as the glue of the team. She finds moments to support every one of the team and make them feel stronger or believe in themselves… [but] this is not a Wonder Woman movie.”

Ben Affleck talked about co-star Henry Cavill’s moustache which he’s had to keep during the reshoots for it to be digitally erased later:

“It was a full-on porn star moustache. He looked like a porn star from the ’70s, just with a better body. It’s a different twist on Superman.”

Affleck also says he’s glad the studio and film itself are moving away from trying to define an overly integrated cinematic universe:

“It maybe takes a bit of pressure off of this movie in terms of needing to define the DC Universe. It doesn’t feel like the whole world is riding on our shoulders so much.

[When Joss came onboard] I didn’t sense that we were moving towards something that felt like The Avengers. Joss is more than just an Avengers director. He’s a good storyteller, full stop. In mid-stream, Joss got on and part of what interested him was the puzzle aspect of it, fitting in pieces that weren’t there yet. He put the rest of the pieces in and gave it his own imprimatur.

The movie’s bigger in scale than any movie I’ve been involved with in my career. It feels massive in terms of the visual elements. That’s something that Zack is really good at. That will be admired.”

Check out the featurette below. “Justice League” opens November 17th.
