Ahead of its premiere on Sunday September 9th, Showtime has released the first episode of the Jim Carrey-led darkly comic drama series “Kidding” online on their official site, Facebook, and YouTube.

Carrey plays Jeff, better known to generations of kids as Mr. Pickles. For decades, Mr. Pickles has hosted a children’s show where he taught viewers lessons of love and kindness.

However, those virtues won’t save Jeff when his family life becomes a personal crisis and his make-believe coping tactics can’t help him maintain his sanity – his kindness is killing him and he’s slowly going insane.

The series also stars Frank Langella as his executive producer, Catherine Keener as the show’s puppet maker, Juliet Morris as her daughter, Judy Greer as Jeff’s ex-wife, and Cole Allen as Jeff’s son. Justin Kirk, Tara Lipinski, Betty Thomas, Ginger Gonzaga, Danny Trejo, and Conan O’Brien also star.

Dave Holstein executive produces the series with Carrey, Michel Gondry and Jason Bateman, and others.

Showtime Renews Carrey-Led “Kidding”

Showtime has ordered a second season of its comedy series “Kidding” starring Jim Carrey in his first series regular role in more than two decades.

Ordered for ten episodes next season, Dave Holstein (“Weeds”) created the show which centers on Jeff, aka Mr. Pickles (Carrey), an icon of children’s television and a beacon of kindness. But when this beloved personality’s family begins to implode, Jeff finds no fairytale, fable or puppet will guide him through this crisis, which advances faster than his means to cope.

Frank Langella, Catherine Keener, Judy Greer, Justin Kirk, Tara Lipinski, Cole Allen and Juliet Morris co-star. The show’s first season finale airs November 11th.
