Daniel Craig To Lead Rian Johnson’s “Knives Out”

With the next James Bond film effectively on hold, Daniel Craig has quickly plugged the hole in his schedule and will star as a detective in the contemporary murder mystery feature “Knives Out” which will film shortly.

The project marks “Looper” and “Brick” director Rian Johnson’s first film since “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”. Johnson will pen and direct the film which is said to boast a classic whodunit style written in Johnson’s original voice. Johnson has been a huge Agatha Christie fan for years and he’s been writing this, his own version of a locked door mansion murder mystery, for over a decade.

U.S. and foreign distributors will be bidding on the project at the Toronto International Film Festival this week with buyers receiving the script last night. Johnson and Ram Bergman will produce with Johnson to shoot the film before he gets to work a new trilogy of films in the “Star Wars” universe.

Chris Evans Wraps “Avengers,” Joins “Knives”

Chris Evans has officially wrapped all his filming on the fourth “Avengers” film and posted a message to fans and colleagues which seems to reinforce the talk that this will be his final outing as Steve Rogers/Captain America.

Deadline adds that Evans is already moving on and has signed on to co-star in Rian Johnson’s upcoming film “Knives Out” alongside Daniel Craig. That project is a modern-day whodunnit murder mystery with an Agatha Christie style.

Acclaimed actor Michael Shannon is in talks to join the ensemble cast of “Brick” and “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” director Rian Johnson’s next feature “Knives Out” for MRC.

The story is described as a modern-day murder mystery in the classic Agatha Christie whodunit style. It’s not yet known what type of character Shannon will play.

The plan is to shoot in November before Craig jumps back into filming his next outing as James Bond. No studio is attached to distribute at this time.

“Brick” and “Looper” director Rian Johnson has found himself suffering at the hands of fanboys for much of the past year in the wake of the release of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” so it’s welcome to see him return to something quite different with a new project he’s both penning and directing that serves as a love letter to Agatha Christie’s works. The film is dubbed a modern take on the whodunit murder mystery with Daniel Craig as the Poirot-esque Detective Benoit Blanc along with Lakeith Stanfield as his offsider. The casting is exquisite – Chris Evans, Michael Shannon, Jamie Lee Curtis, Toni Collette, Christopher Plummer, Don Johnson, and youngsters like “IT” star Jaeden Lieberher and “13 Reasons Why” actress Katherine Langford all playing either suspects or victims. Lionsgate has the film and are planning an early Fall release.
