New Regency, Lionsgate Television and CBS Television Studios are reportedly developing a TV adaptation of “L.A. Confidential” based on James Ellroy’s 1990 novel.

The series would follow the paths of three homicide detectives, a female reporter, and a Hollywood actress as they intersect while the detectives pursue a sadistic serial killer in 1950s Los Angeles.

Jordan Harper (“Gotham,” “The Mentalist”) is set to write and executive produce alongside Arnon Milchan.

The property was previously adapted by Curtis Hanson into the Oscar winning 1997 film of the same name starring Guy Pearce, Kim Basinger, Russell Crowe, Kevin Spacey, James Cromwell, and Danny DeVito.

CBS has ordered four additional drama pilots for the 2018-19 season, the most notable being a new TV series adaptation of James Ellroy’s novel “L.A. Confidential” which New Regency, Lionsgate Television and CBS Television Studios are producing.

The book follows three homicide detectives, a female reporter and an up-and-coming actress whose lives intersect while the detectives pursue a sadistic serial killer among the secrets and lies of gritty 1950’s Los Angeles.

Jordan Harper is writing and serves as executive producer alongside Arnon Milchan. Other pilots ordered include the racially charged “Red Line” from Ava DuVernay and Greg Berlanti, “Main Justice” which is inspired by former Attorney General Eric Holder, and military courtroom drama “The Code” from the creators of the “Limitless” series.

It's lucky that Kevin Spacey died in the film.

Saves the embarrassment of having to kill him now to stop him being in the TV series. :emoji_wink:

Brian J. Smith To Lead “L.A. Confidential” Series

“Sense8” and “Stargate Universe” star Brian J. Smith has scored the lead role of Detective Ed Exley in CBS’ upcoming TV series adaptation of the James Ellroy novel “L.A. Confidential”.

The story follows the paths of three homicide detectives, a female reporter and an up-and-coming actress which intersect while the detectives pursue a sadistic serial killer among the secrets and lies of glamorous and gritty 1950s Los Angeles.

Smith takes on the role that Guy Pearce played in the 1997 film adaptation. Exley is cold, authoritative and ambitious and single-minded in his pursuit of becoming a detective.

Jordan Harper (“Gotham”) penned the script and executive produces alongside Arnon Milchan, while Michael Dinner will direct the pilot.

Smith recently filmed his role of Will Gorski in the two-hour finale episode of “Sense8,” the shift to the CBS period drama will likely involve less pansexual psychic orgies.
