Muschietti Replaces Derrickson On “Locke & Key”
Andy Muschietti, the filmmaker behind the upcoming film adaptation of Stephen King’s novel “IT,” has taken over the helm of the pilot episode of Hulu’s “Locke & Key”.
Muschietti replaces “Sinister” and “Doctor Strange” filmmaker Scott Derrickson as director of least the pilot and potentially several episodes of this take on Joe Hill’s comic. Derrickson had to depart due to a scheduling conflict with his other pilot, TNT’s series adaptation of the film “Snowpiercer”.
The story follows three siblings who return to their family estate in Massachusetts after the gruesome death of their father. Once there, they discover magical keys that grant special powers and open strange doors that change those who dare to walk through them.
Unfortunately, they’re not the only ones interested in these mysterious artifacts, as a supernatural force is also after them and trying to force them to open the most terrible door of them all.
FOX attempted a series adaptation in 2010 with Mark Romanek (“Never Let Me Go”) helming. That version wasn’t picked up to series. With this new version, “Lost” and “Bates Motel” producer Carlton Cuse is onboard as showrunner.
Muschietti remains loosely attached to helm the adaptation of the video game “Shadow of the Colossus”.

An attempt at a TV adaptation took place before in 2010 with another Australian actress, “Annabelle Creation” star Miranda Otto, in the lead role.
