Yann Demange Visits “Lovecraft Country”

Yann Demange (“’71,” “White Boy Rick”) is teaming up with Jordan Peele and J.J. Abrams for HBO’s “Lovecraft Country” series with Demange to both executive produce and direct the first episode of the supernatural racial drama.

Based on the 2016 novel from Matt Ruff, the story follows a man named Atticus Black as he joins up with his friend Letitia and his Uncle George to embark on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America in search of his missing father.

They soon struggle to survive and overcome both the racist terrors of white America and the terrifying monsters that could be ripped from an H.P. Lovecraft paperback. Peele, Abrams and Ben Stephenson also executive produce.

Demange was a contender to direct the next James Bond film, but Danny Boyle has seemingly overtaken him – either way he’s not waiting around and has committed to “Lovecraft Country”.

Michael K. Williams has scored a key role in HBO’s horror drama “Lovecraft Country” which hails from executive producer Jordan Peele and showrunner Misha Green (“Underground).

The story follows 25-year-old Atticus Freeman (Jonathan Majors), who joins up with his friend Letitia and his Uncle George to embark on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America to find his missing father. The journey sets off their fight to survive and overcome both the racist terrors of white America and the malevolent spirits.

Williams will play the role of Montose Freeman, father of Atticus. He’s hard-headed and secretive and despises his son’s fantasy novels, as he believes there’s no way to live in any of those worlds. Jurnee Smollett-Ball, Wunmi Mosaku, Elizabeth Debicki, Aunjanue Ellis and Courtney B. Vance co-star.
