Sony Pictures has begun development of a new spin-off in the “Men in Black” film franchise, one that will not feature Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones.

The project isn’t being labelled a reboot, rather an expansion on the world of the original trilogy with a larger global scope. Comparisons are being made to “Jurassic World” in terms of how it will stay in continuity and yet remain separate.

The project is very different to the aborted “21 Jump Street” mashup planned a while back – even though that film remains in development.

“Iron Man” scribes Matt Holloway & Art Marcum will be the new “Men in Black” spin-off and the studio has already set a May 17th 2019 release date for it.

Producers Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald and executive producer Steven Spielberg are onboard the project which is currently out to top directors.

Someone needs to use a memory-erasing neuralyzer on the people who thought up this idea and "persuade" them to forget all about it.

Chris Hemsworth To Lead New “Men in Black”

Chris Hemsworth is in early negotiations to star in a proposed spin-off to the sci-fi action comedy franchise “Men in Black” at Sony Pictures.

The aim is essentially to follow the “Jurassic World” template in that its a fourth film set in the same contemporary world and continuity, but the focus is on all new characters. Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith’s Agents K and J aren’t expected back for the new take which will be set in London.

The plan is to round out a diverse ensemble cast with the leads reportedly a white male, a female of color, and an older man. F. Gary Gray (“The Fate of the Furious”) is slated to helm from a script by “Iron Man” writers Matt Holloway and Art Marcum.

Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald are back as producers while Steven Spielberg is returning as executive producer. The film is slated for release on June 14th 2019.

“Thor: Ragnarok” stars Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson are set to reunite in the “Men in Black” reboot at Sony Pictures.

Hemsworth has been in negotiations for a role for a few weeks now, but Thompson has just hopped onboard with the pair playing two of the three leads in the new film which is expected to be both more of an ensemble and with a bigger global scope.

F. Gary Gray (“The Fate of the Furious”) is set to direct the movie written by “Iron Man” screenwriters Matt Holloway and Art Marcum. The project isn’t a reboot but a continuation set in the same world but with all new characters (ala “Jurassic World”).

Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald are producing and Steven Spielberg is executive producing. “Men in Black 4” is set for a June 14th 2019 release.

Men in Black 4

A new photo has popped up of Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson on the set of the fourth “Men in Black” film once again teasing their yet-undisclosed characters. Rebecca Ferguson, Emma Thompson, Liam Neeson and Rafe Spall co-star in the project with filming already underway. Though it will not feature Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones, the new MIB will expand on the world of the original trilogy.

Rather than forking out money for another sequel, Sony is half-rebooting the franchise with this spin-off which shifts the action to the London branch of the agency that monitors and enforces law for all alien life visiting or living on Earth. A pair of agents, played by the welcome re-pairing of “Thor: Ragnarok” duo Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson, become involved in a murder mystery that sends them traveling the globe. Liam Neeson, Emma Thompson, Rebecca Ferguson, Kumail Nanjiani and Rafe Spall also star in the project which hails from the writers of “Iron Man” and is helmed by F. Gary Gray (“The Italian Job”). A first trailer released the other month showed strong promise, but considering the third film has gone up in many people’s estimation in recent years – it’s going to have its work cut out for it.
