One of the wackiest books I've read is 'The Plurality Of Worlds' by David Lewis. Or more accurately ,...tried to read it.
It's bizarre, and is not about the science fiction concept of alternative universes or parallel ones, but it's about the philosophical concept of postulating possible worlds to explain the meaning of sentences like;
" I could have been a movie star "
What does that actually mean?
Is it true or false. It is referring to some possible situation that doesn't exist. Possible world , or modal realism, is a way of giving meaning to these types of sentences.
