Herriman Playing Manson Again For “Mindhunter”

Talk about being typecast.

Earlier this week came the news that much respected Australian actor Damon Herriman will be playing notorious cult leader Charles Manson in a role in Quentin Tarantino’s currently filming ninth directorial feature “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”.

Today comes word via Collider that Herriman is playing Manson yet again, this time in the upcoming second season of the David Fincher-produced “Mindhunter” series for Netflix.

The new season of the serial killer drama is expected to deal with the Atlanta Child Murders in the late 70s/early 80s, when an imprisoned Manson was in his late 40s – same age as Herriman is now. Herriman will be portraying a younger and free 35-year-old Manson in the Tarantino film which is set in 1969.

The site says Herriman was cast as Manson in “Mindhunter” first and already filmed his scenes over the summer, as opposed to Tarantino’s film which is still very much in the midst of shooting. It’s not clear how big a role he will have in either project at this point, but it’s expected to only be a supporting turn in both cases.

Though mostly unknown to U.S. audiences beyond the well-received recurring role of Dewey Crowe in FX’s “Justified,” Herriman has been acting since the early 1980s and has ninety-eight film and TV credits to his name. He now follows in the footsteps of actors like Michael Sheen who have taken on the same role (in Sheen’s case UK Prime Minister Tony Blair) in multiple projects.

Both the new season of “Mindhunter” and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” are due to be released in 2019.
