Before their brilliant Inside no.9 series, and after League of Gentlemen ( created with Mark Gattis), Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton gave us the dark and weird Psychoville.
Labelled as a psychological horror sit-com, with Dawn French and Imelda Staunton along with Shearsmith and Pemberton who play various roles.
A horror mystery night in a themed restaurant goes wrong when David (Pemberton) playing a butler announces a murder in the kitchen, the diners all troop along as part of the game into the kitchen, but David has got carried away and set up a fake murder using excretion on the walls and other substances better left unsaid. He gets his cards and loses his job, but tells his mother, "mum I've committed a bad murder", she thinking it's a real murder decides to cover everything up by murdering all witnesses.
If that wasn't strange enough, the real thrust of the 13 episode drama/comedy concerns Dave and six other strangers all receiving a card in the post saying " I know what you did" , and later another card saying," you killed her".
It turns out what connects these blackmail victims is they were all institutionalized at Ravenhill mental asylum where dark deeds were carried out on them and by them. Really recommend this along with Inside no.9.
