I love Guillermo del Toro, but the guy needs to quit taking on projects only to abandon them.

The first poster has arrived for the Guillermo Del Toro-produced “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark,” a feature film adaptation of the works of author Alvin Schwartz opening August 9th. In addition, the first footage for the project will arrive in the form of a trailer during the Super Bowl tomorrow.

The kid-friendly horror film will include several of Schwartz’s short stories being adapted including “Harold,” about a scarecrow who flays his abusive owner, and “The Red Spot” in which a growing red spot on a girl’s face is actually a subcutaneous spider gestation sack. André Ovredal is directing the project from a script by Daniel Hageman, Kevin Hageman and del Toro.
