    The first I ever heard of Georges Melies was in a book by Dennis Gifford...

    A magician of film, he was one of the first people to pioneer film-making techniques that have been built on up to the present day.

    It was good to see him referenced - and indeed, making an appearance in the form of Ben Kingsley - in the film Hugo.
