“Community” and “Atlanta” actor Donald Glover has now finished shooting his scenes on the upcoming “Han Solo” spin-off film.

The film’s director Ron Howard took to Twitter last night to post a behind the scenes shot of himself with Glover during his final bit of filming in the role of a young Lando Calrissian.

Howard took over directing duties from Phil Lord and Chris Miller which led to a brief delay as he got up to speed and then began filming the remainder of the scenes not yet completed along with some reshoots.

Specifics of the film remain under wraps with Lucasfilm expected to put more of their focus on “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” in coming months.

Though Donald Glover is finished, production continues on Ron Howard’s upcoming Han Solo movie and the director has used Twitter to reveal that “Avengers” alum Paul Bettany has scored a role in the film:

Howard says: “The Outer Rim just got a little bit wilder… It’s my third opportunity to work with Paul. He’s a blast & so talented.” Bettany previously worked with Howard on both “A Beautiful Mind” and “The Da Vinci Code”.

Michael K. Williams had to exit a role from the movie recently, but it has been confirmed that Bettany is taking on a completely different character. Alden Ehrenreich, Woody Harrelson, Joonas Suotamo, Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge co-star in the film.

Howard has taken over the movie following the departure of directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The Han Solo film is currently scheduled to be released on May 25th 2018.

Bettany Wraps Work On The Han Solo Film

Just over two weeks ago, director Ron Howard revealed that he was re-teaming with his “A Beautiful Mind” and “The Da Vinci Code” star Paul Bettany for a role in the upcoming young Han Solo film at Lucasfilm.

Today, Howard has posted another photo from the set alongside Bettany with the message that the actor has wrapped filming. Donald Glover wrapped filming his role as Lando Calrissian on the project a few weeks ago.

Additionally Making Star Wars reports that the planets of Corellia and Kessel will be featured locations in the new film. Corellia is Han’s home planet, while Kessel ties to a quote from the original 1977 film about Han’s piloting prowess.

Alden Ehrenreich stars as the beloved smuggler character alongside Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton and Phoebe Waller-Bridge in the project which is still scheduled to be released on May 25th 2018.

Howard Teases “Han Solo” Kessel Run?

Filmmaker Ron Howard keeps tweeting from the young Han Solo film set, this time showing off an image of a cave that has been speculated to be the entrance to the Kessel Run.

In “Star Wars” lore, the Kessel Run is the hyperspace route that smugglers use to move spice from the mines on Kessel. Han Solo’s run broke a long-standing record.

Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Joonas Suotamo, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge all star in the film which is expected to be finishing filming in the next few weeks.

“Solo: A Star Wars Story” Was Fully Reshot?

Han-Solo-Movie-New-Name-Timeline-Story-Details.jpg

When Ron Howard came onboard “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” taking over from the fired Phil Lord and Chris Miller, it was only several weeks away from completion. At the time it wasn’t clear how much of the film would need to be reshot, though indications were that much of what the previous helmers had done was quite salvagable.

It seemed as if Howard would only be re-doing some of the film – effectively finishing off the remainder of what was left along with doing some reshoots, the latter leading to some minor roles being recast. Now, speaking on SWNN’s The Resistance Broadcast, they say insider sources have revealed that Howard reshot ‘nearly all’ of Solo – estimating at least 80% of the spinoff is now from the Howard-era of the film’s production.

This at least means that there shouldn’t be any issue with the DGA in terms of directorial credit – this will be ‘A Ron Howard Film’ without question. Additionally they add that due to all the new filming, the movie’s production budget has allegedly nearly doubled. As “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” came in at $245 million and “Rogue One” totaled $200 million in the end, whatever the final figure on “Solo” ends up being should be worth a raised eyebrow.

“Solo: A Star Wars Story” is due in cinemas in May.

I think that - if Alden Thingumajig can't do a scene like this one, then the movie will be, for me, a complete waste of time......

The stories of an acting coach being brought in don't help to bolster my lack of optimism. :emoji_confused:

Paul Bettany: “Solo” Is A Gangster Movie

paul-bettany-solo-is-a-gangster-movie-696x464.jpg

While arguments rage of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” it’s easy to forget we have another “Star Wars” film ready to hit screens in just five months – Ron Howard’s “Solo: A Star Wars Story”.

Actor Paul Bettany is a part of the film, joining the cast in a role that was originally played by Michael K. Williams in the previous Phil Lord and Chris Miller version of the film. Speaking with Total Film (via The Playlist) about it this week, he describes the film as something more akin to a crime caper than your usual “Star Wars” film:

“It’s Han Solo-s story, and of course his story would be a caper. On one level it’s a gangster movie. That’s really interesting, because it’s within the canon but really different. It’s f–king Han Solo!”

Alden Ehrenreich stars as Han alongside Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. “Solo: A Star Wars Story””opens on May 25th 2018.

I really think that this Solo movie will be, if not a resounding flop, then at least certainly a box-office disappointment. Simply based on the fact that Harrison Ford is very difficult to successfully replace in this iconic role.

An acting coach for the new guy has hardly raised expectation that the impossible may happen either.

I don't see the SOLO trilogy happening, nor the rumoured Indana Jones role being given to this guy either.

“Solo” Reshoots More Extensive Than Suspected

solo-reshoots-more-extensive-than-suspected-696x464.jpg

When Ron Howard took over from fired directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller on the Han Solo spin-off film, he arrived with only a few weeks of filming left to complete.

When Howard boarded, it was expected he would finish the filming along with doing some minor reshooting. Yet as time went on once he began work, it seemed the amount he had to film was more extensive than first thought.

Co-star Paul Bettany, who just wrapped work on the fourth “Avengers” film and who only came onboard after Howard took over, tells Total Film that Howard’s planned filming was so impressive that Disney and Lucasfilm gave him extra work to do:

“His staging ability is so f–king brilliant…I think he went in and he was like a laser, working out what needed to be done when he looked at the footage. And then, as things moved on, everybody felt so secure with him. And they gave him more. He reshot a lot more than was originally intended.”

Which leads to the obvious question – just how much of the final film will be Howard’s and how much, if any of Lord and Miller’s footage will remain? Co-star Thandie Newton told EW that Lord and Miller’s stuff is still very much in there: “[T]heir work is everywhere in it. Ninety percent of my stuff is with them.”

The film also stars Alden Ehrenreich as a younger Han Solo along with Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Joonas Suotamo. It opens May 25th 2018.

John Williams To Compose “Solo” Theme

john-williams-to-compose-star-wars-theme-696x464.jpg

Veteran “Star Wars: franchise composer John Williams has been set to write the theme for “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” the standalone film about a young Han Solo opening May 25th.

Powell was announced as the primary composer for “Solo” back in July and remains so, while Williams revealed his involvement during an interview with Variety today about his work on ‘The Last Jedi’, saying:

“The present plan is that I’m writing a theme for Han Solo, and John Powell is going to write the score, which he’ll do brilliantly. His assignment is something I’m very happy about. What I will do is offer this to John, and to [director] Ron Howard, and if all parties are happy with it, then I will be happy. … John [Powell] will complete the score. He will write all the rest of the themes and all of the other material, which I’m going to be very anxious to hear.”

Williams has written the complete scores for all eight of the main “Star Wars” films, while spin-off “Rogue One” was scored by Michael Giacchino.

More “Solo” Reshoots On The Way

more-solo-reshoots-on-the-way-696x464.jpg

Additional reshoots are reportedly being lined up for Ron Howard’s “Solo: A Star Wars Story” with a little more than four months to go until the “Star Wars” spin-off hits cinemas.

The report comes from a reliable Reddit source (via CBM) and says the additional filming will run for three weeks kicking off at the end of January.

Howard was hired to replace Phil Lord and Chris Miller most of the way through the film’s principal photography stage and then proceeded to essentially reshoot much of the film. That makes these the reshoots for the reshoots.

The film still has yet to release any official stills or a trailer, though one is rumored to be hitting in the next few weeks. “Solo: A Star Wars Story” remains slated to open May 25th.

“Solo: A Star Wars Story” Synopsis & Reshoot Talk

han-solo-concept-art-teases-ship-designs-696x464.jpg

Walt Disney Studios has released the first plot synopsis from the upcoming “Solo: A Star Wars Story” while one of the film’s co-stars, “Fleabag” actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge, has spoken some more about the film.

First up, the new story breakdown which says:

“Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in Solo: A Star Wars Story, an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes.”

Ron Howard helms the film, taking over from directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller who shot much of the movie before being fired by Lucasfilm. Waller-Bridge was asked by UK IGN recently what sort of impact the transition between directors had on the cast. She said:

“The handover there was done with such warmth and generosity from everybody, and Ron’s just a master at his craft; he’s going to make a beautiful film out of it. You just really trust him and it was just really exciting to work with him. I mean, it would’ve been exciting to just pass him in a corridor, let alone for him to be parachuted in to the film you’re working on. We’d done some really, really great stuff with Chris and Phil that everyone was really thrilled with, and I think a lot of that will still be in it.”

Despite being a little over four months away, there still has yet to be a single official photo or trailer from the film. “Solo: A Star Wars Story” is coming to cinemas on May 25th.
