Disney Plans Live-Action “Hunchback” Musical
David Henry Hwang (“M. Butterfly”) has been hired to pen the live-action musical “Hunchback” for Disney Pictures.
The film will be an adaptation of the original novel by Victor Hugo and pull elements from Disney’s 1996 animated “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” movie.
Oscar winners Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz will write the music for the film, with Josh Gad producing and rumored to be starring as the Hunchback.
This joins the list of various Disney animated features that are being adapted into live-action projects including “Aladdin,” “Dumbo,” “Mulan,” “The Lion King,” “The Little Mermaid” and “Lady and the Tramp”.
