Your thoughts on this story....

The travellers decide to take a holiday near ancient Rome, but after a month the Doctor gets restless. He and Vicki determine to visit Rome, and while they are gone Ian and Barbara are abducted by slave traders. All roads lead to Rome, however, and the travellers find themselves at the mercy of the country's petulant emperor, Nero... (Originally broadcast in four parts.)

Not too bad.

I don't think of it as a great story, but do appreciate the humour and the almost happy go lucky moments clashing against the undercurrent of nastiness.

I can't say that it sells me on pure historicals, but it is nice to have it intact in the archives.

I always struggled with this one. My first introduction was Donald Cotton's novelisation which was just weird. And when I eventually saw it I appreciated the humour (and you could see how much fun William Harnell was having hamming it up) but I also felt that the humour wasn't really appropriate in what was actually a pretty violent and nasty story. It made light of things like slavery and rape and multiple deaths.
