Thriller s03e02- I'm The Girl He Wants To Kill

Ann Rodgers returning home from work enters her apartment block, and a suspicious looking bald man passes her on the stairs. He stops and stares at her then hurries on his way. At her door she notices the next door flat door open, and peering inside sees her neighbour, a young lady dead on the floor.
That evening Ann is at the police station trying to identify the suspect from police mug shots, but has no luck, though she provides the police artist with a good description. The man is in his forties , quite short and bald headed. This man is wanted for several murders and the police have now a decent photofit of the man.

Months later, Ann has struck up a relationship with the investigating police officer, Mark, so much so that an engagement is imminent between them.
Mark calls at Ann's workplace , Parker Industries, where she works as P.A. to Mr Burton the overseas manager. Mark has to unfortunately cancel their lunch date, he has been told to see the Chief, and today was the day he was going to take her to buy an engagement ring.
Ann in her lunch break walks along a street to a jewellery shop and wistfully stares in the window at the rings. A man is seated at a chair in the shop near the window, using a jewellers eye piece to repair a watch. The man looks up, it's HIM ,the killer, Ann stares horrified, he stares back, then she runs.

He quickly closes the shop and runs out, light of foot, wearing an leather jacket and white trainers he dodges the traffic, chasing Ann.

Ann makes it back to Parker Industries building, a huge office block, and goes straight up to her office.

Mr Burton is surprised, she's back early, Ann says nothing about the man chasing her, but phones Mark up. Mark assures her she is wrong, they've caught the man, that's why his boss wanted him, she can relax, he's in custody.
But, not so, Mark stares at the man, he is bald headed but it's a different guy.


Downstairs in the lobby, Sam the security man is busy at his desk and doesn't see The Man slip into the building foyer, and when Sam's back is turned he enters a room marked Archive Room there he waits.

Mr Burton asks Ann to get him a particular file he wants, from 1968, so it'll be in archives, Ann takes the lift to ground floor and enters Archive Room. The Man is there, hiding, knife drawn, he silently approaches Ann, her back turned as she searches for a file on the shelves..

Suddenly she hears movement behind her, she turns, it's Sam, saying Mr Burton has phoned down, and instructed Ann to not worry if she can't find file, but Ann has found it and leaves the room with Sam. The Man, the killer, still in the room hiding , waiting. He spies through a crack in the door Ann getting in lift alone, which then rises to floor 10.

Sam the security man is waiting patiently to go home, his relief is late. Ann's boss Mr Burton leaves the building passing Sam telling Sam Ann is working late.

Finally the night man turns up in a state, he's forgotten his anniversary and his wife ain't pleased, so can Sam stay a bit longer so he can take her to the pub, Sam agrees, a fatal mistake.
Ann is alone in the building at 8pm, Mr Burton has asked her to do overtime and is busy hoping to get away to meet Mark for a date.
Downstairs in the lobby Sam gets his security keys and is about to lock the main doors when he hears footsteps behind him, The Man is just entering the lift after creeping out of the Archive Room.
" Here you, where do you think you're going?"
Sam approaches him and The Man callously stabs him, and then grabs the keys and goes over to a wall panel and studies it, works out which key to put in which lock in the panel and turns key. The main doors lock, and The Man runs into lift 1 up to floor 10, the floor that Ann works.

Ann meanwhile has finished her work and leaves office and heads down in lift 2 to foyer, she goes to door, but it's locked and Sam is nowhere about.
" Sam, you have locked me in, Sam where are you?"

Ann goes to desk and sees Sam on floor behind desk, dead. Lift 1 is descending, Ann hurries to door, " please hurry, please.."
She looks down at floor, muddy footprints, lead from Archive Room to lift, to desk, to main door and to lift again. Muddy tracks the sort of imprint left by trainers.
" oh my God!!"
Lift 1 is almost at ground floor, Ann hides behind desk as The Man comes out, looks puzzled and sees Ann's handbag on floor near lift, he runs into Ladies toilet, Ann hears him slamming cubicle doors as he looks for her, then he runs out, then into gents toilet. More cubicle door slamming, Ann runs out from behind desk, into lift 1 as The Man comes out of gents, he rushes over to lift, Ann screams as the door shuts just in time.

Ann has reached the 12th floor and is in Mr Parker's office, the head man, the only office with a connected phone line to outside the building. She dials for police 999.
The phone is answered, " Hello which service do you require?"
Ann, " police and hurry."
A nice spoken man answers and asks what's wrong. Ann tells him ,a man is chasing her in her office building, Parker Industries.
" I know you're in the Parker Building Miss but which office are you in?"
Ann replies, " Floor 12 Mr P....you know I'm in the Parker Building......but.....oh my God!"

The Man is in the switchboard room on the ground floor, he had intercepted the call.
He rips the phone cables out of the switchboard and runs into lift 1 and up to 12th floor.
Ann goes to window and screams for help but she's 12 floors up, no one can hear.
She recovers her composure and runs, to lifts, lift 1 is coming up , she calls lift 2, it arrives as Lift 1 does too, she descends as The Man leaves lift 1, looks at panel seeing lift 2 descending then stopping. Ann gets out at floor 5, The Man sees this and heads for stairs, Ann too heads into stairway and up, they are converging.

Ann hears heavy breathing as The Man is running down stairs, Ann runs onto 7th floor calls both lifts.


They arrive, she gets into Lift 1 presses button sending it down then runs back out, lift 1 descends. She runs into lift 2 presses button and sends that one up and runs out.
The Man arrives at lifts on 7th floor sees both going in opposite directions, he is flummoxed...what to do? He picks lift 1 and goes downstairs, Ann comes out of an office and heads upstairs to floor 10.

Ann has carefully got back up to her office. She slumps on seat in office tired, thinking what to do next. The door of her office in the darkness slams shut, she looks up, he's here, he second guessed her, waiting for her. He takes out his knife and advances ,she backs away, he has her cornered. Suddenly the fax machine whirrs into action, he turns, Ann pushes a table into his legs, he cries out, she runs out, he's chasing her down corridor, Ann gets into lift and descends.

Mark meanwhile is unhappy, he tells Keston his assistant officer that the man they arrested was a time waster, his confession worthless, all the facts wrong.

He remembers that Ann told him about being followed back to the office, and she saw him in a jewellers window. Mark gets the handbag of murdered girl that Ann reported. Ann told Mark that her last words to the girl was when she asked Ann the time.
" What does that imply Keston?"
" That her watch was broken?"
In the girl's handbag is a stub from a jewellers shop, her watch was being repaired.
Mark says " that's how he chooses his victims, they enter his shop he takes a fancy to them and..."
Mark phones Ann at home, no answer, she must be at work still. No answer though from Parker Industries except a pre recorded message saying the office is closed. Mark wonders does Parker Industries leave a line open for security purposes.
Keston investigates, and 5 minutes later reports that the security guard usually phones the police switchboard , every hour, but not tonight. Mark rushes out, Keston picks up the phone, a police squad is despatched.

Ann has made her way to switchboard on ground floor, desperately trying to replace wires The Man ripped out , to try and make call. Lift 1 arrives at ground floor, Ann runs to main doors desperately pulling at them, but of course not achieving anything. Headlights light up car park, the police arrive.

The Man knife drawn runs to Ann and grabs her as she tries to run back to lift, he then sees Mark with police security keys opening the main doors. He abandons his attack on Ann and runs back into lift 1 and ascends.



Mark rushes in with officers quickly checking Ann is alright Mark then goes to lift door and takes handcuffs out of pocket and jams then in lift door forcing them to slightly open, the lift is stalled midway between floors. The Man is trapped, he bangs at door of lift, but there's no way out.
Ann relieved and seeing how Mark forced open lift door says, " I wish I'd thought of that."
Mark suggests a visit to hospital for a check up, but Ann is insistent , she's okay, she'll drive herself home, she just wants to go home.
Mark joins officers on the 6th floor, they have opened the outer door of the lift , they look up shaft, the lift is between floors 6 and 7. The lift is winched down the officers ready to take him.
Mark, " don't worry about the judge's rules whack him......ready?"
The doors open...its empty!
A trapdoor is open in ceiling an officer states the obvious , " He heaved himself up to next floor , he's gone."
Mark runs back to foyer, Keston is there injured, bloodied, a knife wound, he collapses, "..I ran into him Sarg,....I think I wounded him bad.....think I got
him."
Mark is alarmed, "Ann, what about Ann!?"
Keston splutters blood saying, " I think she got away."
Mark runs into car park screaming ," ANN, ANN!"
Ann is driving home, she arrives home and outside house parks car, and looks in rear view mirror, checking her face , she looks a bit bedraggled, not surprising really. In the mirror staring back at her from the back seat is The Man.

Five minutes later a screeching car pulls up outside the house, Mark's police car, he runs out and up to Ann's car. She is sitting staring straight ahead unmoving , in shock.
" Ann are you okay?"
Mark sees The Man in back seat , he reaches in to grab him, but The Man slumps forward.....dead.
Mark says, " Keston said he got him, it's okay Ann he's dead."
The ordeal finally over he takes her into the house.
