Nic Hoult Top Choice To Play JRR Tolkien

“X-Men: First Class” and “A Single Man” star Nicholas Hoult is in early talks to play a young J.R.R. Tolkien in an upcoming biopic about the author for Fox Searchlight and Chernin Entertainment.

The story explores the formative years of the orphaned author as he finds friendship, love and artistic inspiration among a fellow group of outcasts at school.

The outbreak of World War I threatens to tear the ‘fellowship’ apart and his experiences inspire him to write his famous Middle-Earth novels, most notably “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy.

Dome Karukoski will helm “Tolkien” from a script by David Gleeson and Stephen Beresford.

Lily Collins To Play J.R.R. Tolkien’s Wife

Lily Collins (“Okja,” “The Last Tycoon”) is set to star opposite Nicholas Hoult in the J.R.R. Tolkien biopic “Tolkien” for Fox Searchlight and Chernin Entertainment.

Collins will play Edith Bratt, the author’s great love and eventual wife who inspired the elven princess characters in his master work “The Lord of the Rings”.

The story sees Tolkien finding friendship, love, and artistic inspiration among a group of classmates prior to the outbreak of World War I. He then served and then penned the books.

Finnish director Dome Karukoski will helm the movie from a script by David Gleeson and Stephen Beresford.

Combined with groundbreaking work in linguistics, his experiences inspire Tolkien to write his famous Middle-Earth novels. Dome Karukoski helms the film which also stars Lily Collins as his muse and wife Edith Bratt.

David Gleeson and Stephen Beresford penned the script for the movie opening May 10th.
