Third “Tomb Raider” Game Officially Announced






Although there’s been multiple leaks talking about its existence, Square Enix has only now just officially announced a third game in the rebooted “Tomb Raider” series is on the way. In a posting on Facebook they say:

“Square Enix is excited to share some big news with you next year, Honestly, we wish we could share it with you right now, but were taking a new approach this time. A new Tomb Raider game is coming.

Driven by our goal of putting our fans first, we want you to know that it won’t be very long between the official reveal and when you can play. Our journey together will begin with a major event in 2018. We simply can’t wait to take you on Lara Croft’s defining adventure.”

Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics rebooted the series in 2013 with the self-titled game followed by the sequel “Rise of the Tomb Raider” in 2015, both scoring strong acclaim. Though an official title hasn’t been released, previous leaks suggest it will be “Shadow of the Tomb Raider”.

The new Alicia Vikander-led film adaptation of the games, based on the 2013 reboot, hits cinemas on March 16th.

I hope it will be in old fashion way,without survival instincts.Not showing any clue and let you to decide what will do or how solve a puzzle.And more side quests would be great.I must admitt,the moment they make the official announcement,i will pre - order a copy for my x one,no matter how much it will costs.

“Tomb Raider” Reviews Paint A Mixed Picture




The first reviews are in for the Alicia Vikander-led “Tomb Raider” film and the response is weak-mixed at best. The film has landed a 49% mark on Rotten Tomatoesand a 5.2/10 average rating and a 49/100 on Metacritic.

As a comparison the 2001 and 2003 films with Angelina Jolie scored a 33 & 43 respectively on Metacritic so it’s an improvement on the film, but the new film lags WAY behind the 85/100 the 2013 video game reboot upon which the new film is very loosely based.

Reviews do appreciate the reinvention of the hero in a tougher and more human mold and Vikander, in particular, is singled out as being fully committed to the role, but many of the complaints are over its blandness, the dull origin story and the ridiculousness of the whole thing. Amongst some choice quotes:

“What makes Vikander’s interpretation work is that this new-and-somewhat-improved ‘Tomb Raider’ has been conceived as both a back-to-basics origin story and a smart, forward-thinking spin on a character with a tricky representational history…” Justin Chang, The Los Angeles Times

“Such a uniquely interesting character deserves more than a run-of-the-mill action franchise, but nearly 40 years after Raiders of the Lost Ark, we’re still getting pits and spikes, spiders and snakes….” Alonso Duralde, The Wrap

“Xtreme bike couriers, daddy issues, eccentric fathers, amateur detours into the field of MMA, supernatural mumbo-jumbo and video game-adapted action adventure are mashed together awkwardly and sometimes risibly in Warner Bros. wholly unremarkable reboot of the “Tomb Raider” franchise. Unexceptionally directed by Roar Uthaug (Norwegian hit “The Wave“), “Tomb Raider” is superficial even for a mainstream tentpole, clumsily and unpersuasively put together and tests and breaks suspension of disbelief at every turn…” Rodrigo Perez, The Playlist

“The movie is full of vine-swinging, bow-and-arrow-shooting, ancient-spirit-meeting action, but most of it is staged on a convincing human scale, one that’s been expertly tailored to its star’s understated directness…” Owen Gleiberman, Variety

“It’s not a terrible film. Unthaug choreographs some decent action and effects sequences and Vikander does her best with limited resources, but the overall question you’re left with after two hours is, quite simply, why?…” Chris Newbould, UAE

Just got back from seeing it and agree with all you said, Dave.

I went in with a lowered expectation as I heard that the reviews were mixed.

Add to this that I have never properly watched the earlier TR films, so am not overly immersed in the mythology of the whole thing.

Perhaps because of that, I really enjoyed it. Alicia Vikander owned the role, imo, in a very confident and natural performance

Just really well done all round. It will seem a little unfair, I think, if this does not get a sequel.

Tomb Raider is a 2018 action-adventure film directed by Roar Uthaug with a screenplay by Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Alastair Siddons, from a story by Evan Daugherty and Robertson-Dworet. It is based on the 2013 video game of the same name, with some elements of its sequel by Crystal Dynamics, and is a reboot of the Tomb Raider film series. The film stars Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft, in which she embarks on a perilous journey to her father's last-known destination, hoping to solve the mystery of his disappearance. Dominic West, Walton Goggins, Daniel Wu and Kristin Scott Thomas appear in supporting roles.

Principal photography took place from January to June 2017 at the Warner Bros. Studios in the United Kingdom and in Cape Town, South Africa. The first Tomb Raider film not to be distributed by Paramount Pictures, it was released in the United Kingdom on March 14, 2018 and in the United States on March 16, 2018, by Warner Bros. Pictures in RealD 3D, IMAX 3D and IMAX. It has grossed $164 million worldwide, making it the 8th highest-grossing film of 2018.

The film met with mixed reviews from critics, with some criticizing the plot as "paint-by-numbers" but also praising the grittiness and realistic take on the franchise. Vikander's performance and the characterization of Croft drew a polarized response; some described her as a "capable, powerful and unobjectified heroine" while others called her bland and a "punching bag and onlooker"
