“Umbrella Academy” Is Already Mapped Out

One of Netflix’s more anticipated new shows this year is “The Umbrella Academy,” the TV series adaptation of the Dark Horse Comics series of the same name created and written by “My Chemical Romance” musician Gerard Way.

The story follows a group of estranged, super-powered family members who have to come together and work through their personality quirks to solve the death of their father and the potential end of the world. Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, Robert Sheehan, Mary J. Blige, Kate Walsh and Cameron Britton co-star in the series.

To date, three volumes of the ongoing comic have been published in the past decade and, speaking with Collider, Way revealed that not only does he know how the graphic novels will end and wanted to make sure the show’s writers knew where it was all ultimately going:

“What I did for Steve Blackman (the showrunner) and the writers in that first writers room was to create an eighteen-page document that laid everything out. Even of the graphic novels that haven’t come out yet. Which should equal eight when we’re all done.

So I gave them the blueprint for what happens, because you do want to seed certain things in there for future series and the hope is that it’s a success so that you do a lot more of these. They’re very curious what Gabriel and I are doing next. We always send them the new comics. They really want to know what’s happening.”

“The Umbrella Academy” hits the streaming service on February 15th 2019.

“Umbrella Academy” Gets A “Hazy Shade” Cover

Ahead of the series premiere of Netflix’s “The Umbrella Academy” next month, former My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way has shared a cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s “Hazy Shade Of Winter” which he’s recorded for the show.

Way created the original Eisner Award-winning comic upon which the show is based. The story follows six adopted thirty-something children of a recently deceased billionaire industrialist.

All are amongst forty-three kids born on the same day in 1989 to women who weren’t pregnant when the day started. Previously estranged, they must now work together to solve a mystery surrounding their father’s death and ultimately an impending global apocalypse.

Ellen Page, Mary J. Blige, Robert Sheehan and Tom Hopper star and Steve Blackman (“Fargo,” “Altered Carbon”) pens and produces the series with all ten episodes premiering on the service on February 15th.

“Hazy Shade of Winter” has been covered numerous times over the years, most notably for the “Less than Zero” soundtrack by The Bangles in 1987.

Netflix’s recently launched genre series “The Umbrella Academy” has been renewed for a second season reports Screen Rant.

The site indicates production is expected to be underway from May through to September ahead of an airing early next year. At this time, Netflix’s official Twitter account for the series has made no mention of a renewal.

The series is based on the award-winning comics by Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba, though headed in a whole different direction which means the potential storyline of a second season is uncertain.

Critical reviews were mixed-good, but independent analytics have suggested it was a massive hit for the streamer.

“Umbrella Academy” S2 Set For July 31st

Netflix has announced a July 31st premiere date for the second season of “The Umbrella Academy,” the series adaptation of the award-winning comics by Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba.
The story of the first season followed a group of estranged, super-powered family members who have to come together and work through their personality quirks to solve the death of their father and the potential end of the world. The second season will follow the Hargeeves siblings travelling back in time in a bid to save the world from destruction.
Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, Robert Sheehan, Mary J. Blige, Kate Walsh and Cameron Britton co-star in the series which scored good reviews and was a big hit for the streamer. The announcement clip sends up the famed Tiffany song moment from the show’s series premiere, but does so with everyone in self-isolation.

The project was finished production and would’ve arrived earlier, but the coronavirus pandemic slowed post-production leading to this new date almost eighteen months after the first season premiered.
