Yes, I think he was about to - or at the very least, wanted to .

The Doctor.... Our Doctor.... wanted to bash in the skull of a wounded caveman.

Hard to accept, in light of the Matt Smiths that were to come, but, yep, it happened.

Or would have, if he had had the opportunity.
