Your thoughts on this movie.....

A pragmatic U.S. Marine observes the dehumanizing effects the Vietnam War has on his fellow recruits from their brutal boot camp training to the bloody street fighting in Hue.

R. Lee Ermey

Welp. It happened. That one celebrity death you never saw coming. It happened.

Ronald* "R." Lee Ermey, Marine-turned-character actor, has died from pneumonia. He was 74.

His Military expertise led to several Military film and TV roles, most notably Gunnery Sgt. Hartman in Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket.

But being a 90s kid, I first took notice of him when he played Sarge in Toy Story. He also played a ghost drill sergeant in Peter Jackson's The Frighteners, starring Michael J. Fox.

Non-Military roles include the sheriff in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake and prequel, and a warden on SpongeBob.

He and I have different politics, but I certainly respect him as an actor and as an artist. RIP.

*Conflicting sources: Ronald or Robert Lee Ermey?
