Minor Confusion Over “Wonder Woman” Sequel

minor-confusion-over-wonder-woman-sequel-696x464.jpg

Press interviews are everywhere this week of key people involved in the “Wonder Woman” film, most notably director Patty Jenkins who has discussed the DC Comics adaptation at length with numerous outlets.

In the wake of stellar reviews and a likely box-office win, there’s already murmurings of a sequel and questions over when it would be set. The first film uses a present-day framing device to flash back to World War I, so the big question is with a sequel if it will do another period piece in a post-WWI setting, or if it will stay in the present day?

Jenkins says another period film was always the plan for a potential sequel:

“It is for sure [set in the century between WWI & today]. I’m definitely planning something more interesting using that period of time. Definitely, it’s the plan. I can’t say what it is! But it’s definitely right in the pocket of what you’re talking about.”

However, a profile piece with Jenkins and Gadot suggests a contemporary setting is the plan and adds that Jenkins and Gadot are contractually committed to a second film.

So what’s going on? From the looks of it the sequel’s story hasn’t really been explored much yet, something producer Charles Roven pretty much confirms.

“Nothing has been written. We really want to focus on this movie, and I think the result of this movie is going to really define what the future of Wonder Woman is in the movies, other than the fact that you know that she’s in Justice League. And we’re really happy about that”.

“Wonder Woman” is now out in cinemas everywhere.

Wonder Woman 2 Confirmed: Also Modern Day Setting Confirmed....

DC Comic's newest film, "Wonder Woman" dominated the box for it's Thursday opening night. Domestically, the film brought in $11 million dollars for it's opening night. It's just been announced that director Patty Jenkins will return to the world of Wonder Woman to helm it's sequel. Unlike the origin movie, it looks like the second film will feature a contemporary setting. In a recent interview, Jenkins commented on making another movie and clarified that she's not in this to make big, massive budget movies. She shared that the cost doesn't matter, but that she strives to make great movies.

“Wonder Woman 2” Takes Place In The U.S.

Talk of a “Wonder Woman” sequel began before the film scored great reviews and excellent box-office this past weekend, with the final domestic tally jumping slightly higher than estimates and coming in at $103.1 million.

With director Patty Jenkins and star Gal Gadot committed to a sequel, there’s already been talk of what time period a follow-up will take place in. Today though, speaking with EW, Jenkins says the next film will ditch the Themyscira and European locales for a tale in the United States:

“The story will take place in the U.S., which I think is right. She’s Wonder Woman. She’s got to come to America. It’s time.”

Work has yet to begin on the script at last report. Jenkins also spoke about her passion for the sequel, saying that she doesn’t want to direct something to satisfy a contractual obligation. With this though, an idea recently struck:

“I’m not a big obligation person when it comes to art. You want to do a movie like this because you believe in it. Then I had this revelation in the middle of the night: this is your dream cast, you’ve created a character that you love and you can say anything you want in the world right now. Then I realized that Wonder Woman 2 is its own great movie. I made Wonder Woman. Now I want to make Wonder Woman 2. It’s a beautiful story to tell, an important time to tell it and with people that I love.”

Finally, Jenkins previously confirmed that only one key scene from the film was reshot. Today she’s revealed which scene it is – the sequence just before No Man’s Land where Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor are walking through the frontlines of World War I and see the suffering. Jenkins tells Heat Vision:

“I wanted to ramp that tension as much as possible, and unfortunately, we didn’t have it. That scene was just a slightly tense scene of them walking. I was like ‘I need her to see some brutality.’ So, we added her seeing the horses being whipped. It was actually something that had been in the script originally.”

“Wonder Woman” is now playing in cinemas everywhere.

“Wonder Woman 2” Set For December 2019

Warner Bros. Pictures have now set an official December 13th 2019 release date for the sequel to Patty Jenkins’ “Wonder Woman”.

Gal Gadot is confirmed to reprise her role as the DC Comics heroine in what’s tipped to be another period story taking place prior to ‘Dawn of Justice’. What period isn’t clear as yet, though there have been rumors of a 1980s Cold War setting.

Jenkins’ return as director isn’t quite confirmed by the studio at this point, though it’s a sure bet. The first film has grossed more than $740 million at the worldwide box office and has become the biggest domestic earner of the Summer.

Wonder Woman's box office success has killed plans for a prequel TV series

landscape-1460389308-wonder-woman-amazons.jpg

The Lasso of Truth has spoken – Wonder Woman fans will never get to see a prequel series on television. But don't worry, there's a pretty good reason for it.

Although The CW had one in the works – it was called Amazon, by the way – the US network has now pulled the plug on the idea of a TV series chronicling Diana of Themyscira's origin.

While we would never pass on the opportunity to see more female superheroes on our screens, the reason Amazon has been shelved is one that makes us feel a lot better.

According to Buzzfeed's Jarett Wieselman, The CW announced that it had changed its mind after DC's Wonder Woman movie was such a huge success.

“Wonder Woman” Is ‘Fully Formed’ In The Sequel

wonder-woman-is-fully-formed-in-the-sequel-696x464.jpg

With this year’s “Wonder Woman” film mostly serving as an origin story for the character, we didn’t really get to see the Amazonian heroine fully formed until right near the end.

Speaking briefly about the upcoming sequel with ET Online, director Patty Jenkins has promised that Gal Gadot’s character will be a ‘full blown’ Wonder Woman in the follow-up, one more akin to the one seen in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and the upcoming “Justice League”.

“The greatest thing about making this [the first Wonder Woman] movie was the fact that you’re really building to the Wonder Woman that we all love, but not until the end of the movie.

The most exciting thing about [the sequel] is literally seeing her loose in the world now, living those classic stories. Here’s Wonder Woman, and what can she do? It should be a totally different movie, but a grand and now full-blown Wonder Woman in the world.”

It’s still not clear what period the next “Wonder Woman” movie will take place in, though rumors of a 1980s Cold War setting with Diana taking on the Soviets has been around for a while.

I'm disappointed that we won't get to see her in WWII. Wouldn't she have something to say about that? Especially since the last movie, with the emphasis on the Germans being the bad guys (I'm not so sure they were the unequivocal bad guys in real life), wouldn't she want to fight Nazis? It doesn't make sense to skip over all that.

“Wonder Woman 2” Leads New Movie Guidelines

gadot-explains-key-wonder-woman-retcon-696x464.jpg

The “Wonder Woman” sequel will be the first film production to implement a newly released set of guidelines by the Producer’s Guild of America. The aim of these guidelines? To prevent and deal with sexual harassment on film sets.

The guidelines spell out a number of ways film productions can stymie the tide of sexual harassment on sets including designating advocates on set to whom workers can report concerns without fear of reprisal.

The announcement came at the Producer’s Guild of America Awards on Saturday reports Vanity Fair (via Screen Rant). It follows in the wake of the first “Wonder Woman” being produced by Brett Ratner, who was accused of sexual harassment by a number of women including Ellen Page. Ratner isn’t involved in the sequel which begins shooting mid-year ahead of a late 2019 release.

Cheetah Is The “Wonder Woman 2” Villain?

cheetah-is-the-wonder-woman-2-villain-696x464.jpg

More indicators are popping up which suggest Cheetah will serve as the main villain in Patty Jenkins’ “Wonder Woman” sequel.

A new report at That Hashtag Show states that Warner Bros. Pictures is looking to cast the role currently and says they were targeting Oscar-winner Emma Stone for the part, but she turned it down. At the present time, there are no other names who are said to be in the running for the part.

The report also indicates this take on the character will be the Barbara Ann Minerva version. In the comics, she is a British anthropologist who winds up becoming the cheetah god after locating the lost city of Urzkartagan and stumbling into the middle of an ancient ritual.

She’s a stealthy shapeshifter with heightened senses, enhanced agility, super strength and the ability to control animals. “American Horror Story” actress Sarah Paulson expressed interest in the role on social media last year.

The Cold War-set film is slated to kick off production this June under the working title “Magic Hour” which previously has been theorised at hinting that the film’s villain will be Circe.

“Wonder Woman 2” is slated to open November 1st 2019.

Also in development is the Joaquin Phoenix-led The Joker film which is expected to launch a new sub-label under the DC Films division, possibly labelled DC Black, and is said to be sporting a 1980s gangster tone and an economical $55 million budget.

Then there’s “The Flash” movie starring Ezra Miller which will now be a much lighter and more fun affair. John Francis Daly and Jonathan Goldstein helm the film which will begin production in early 2019 and will likely be the next DCEU film to go into production.

Hans Zimmer To Score “Wonder Woman 1984”

Academy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer has been confirmed to do the score for “Wonder Woman 1984” at Warner Bros. Pictures.

FilmMusicReporter and Hans-Zimmer.com reported the news about the score which will be Zimmer’s first DC films score since “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” three years ago – at which time he effectively retired from the superhero genre until he changed his mind and hopped onto “X-Men: Dark Phoenix”.

Patty Jenkins returns to direct the film from a script she co-wrote alongside Geoff Johns and Dave Callaham. Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Pedro Pascal, Kristen Wiig, Gabriella Wilde, Natasha Rothwell, and Ravi Patel star in the currently shooting film which opens late 2019.

wright-returns-for-wonder-woman-1984-696x464.jpg

Actress Robin Wright has confirmed she will reprise her role as General Antiope in the upcoming DC Comics sequel film “Wonder Woman 1984”.

Wright is expected to appear in a flashback scene with co-star Connie Nielson as Diana’s mother Queen Hippolyta. Both characters were a major part of the Themyscira scenes in last year’s “Wonder Woman” film, with Antiope killed in battle.

Wright recently wrapped up filming on the final episodes of Netflix’s “House of Cards” and it was during an interview with Porter Magazine for that she confirmed she will fly out to Spain shortly to play Antiope again. The film’s production has been building sets in the Canary Islands for the past few weeks.

“Wonder Woman 1984” has been primarily filming in the Washington D.C. area over the Summer, with production now moving to England. The film is due in cinemas late next year.
